How often do you deal with depression. What do you think of it? Will it ever get better?

I prolly have at least 2 serious lows a week. I don't like feeling confused and hopeless. I don't know if it will get better but I hope it does.

i feel like i got past it a few months ago. im probably not done, but i hope i am for a while. everything i did to get past it is hardly worth recommending to another human being. devmeister, keep checking in here when youre upset. a few of us are real shitkickers, but we mean well and will do what we can.

My depression cycles - six or seven months seems to be the longest w/out a "relapse". When I'm struggling, it's pretty normal for suicidal thoughts to exist for a month or more.

professional help people....talk therapy/meds/whatever you have to do...and not having the funds or time for it is just an excuse since there are many places that work with those without insurance...if you have time to be depressed you have time to get yourself well and its your quality of life you're spending this time, energy, and money on so i think its pretty worth it don't you?
And C3 you're right about whatever you went through because some can do it on their own but at what "cost"? Its best to seek professional help and believe me I know when you're down and know you need the help its difficult to motivate yourself to go and when you get through it you feel as though maybe this time im fine and don't need to go but really only you know whether its a recurring thing or not or if the downs are longer and more pronounced than the highs (so to speak)...thats all I got but it works if given the time and your investment into it...

ps-dont think the first Dr. will be the one for you...if so then thats awesome but most people have to try a few before they find the right one for them...its a very individual thing so have patience and most of all hope... :)

Not trying to knock you here, but it's harder than one might think - it more or less takes over your life sometimes... sort of like an addiction, you have to realize that there is a problem. If you aren't able to do that, then it can become too much for some people.
You are totally right about the insurance and what not - I found some incredible doctors a few years ago in Chicago (each visit was only $5 and my meds were covered - this still wasn't enough to keep me on them) who gave me the option of the mental institute with police escort or they were calling 911 to have the police transport me to the ER. Sometimes you need a reality check like this. If it weren't for my doctor that day, and even my roomie, I would be dead.

you're completely right i think i said something to the effect that its easy to forget when you feel fine...but I know allot of the meds also have to be tried out before the ones that work for you are found...and the side effects sometimes keep people from taking them too...Its definitely a more complex issue than my post made it out to be for sure

but i dont know about low low suicide low

but i probably have gotten close at times(in terms of thought/depression, not in terms of actually acting on it)

not very often, but sometimes it comes and goes
and what do i do about it
make funny/somewhat self-depracating jokes or keep it to myself

Please talk to a doctor; several doctors; it won't hurt and will help.

Depression was a mystery 40 years ago, but today there are wonderful treatments out there - both meds, therapy, exercise, etc.

Be well.
