you could always get a cat like I did. The cat never catches them to my knowledge, but I hear them in the walls ever so often. Never see them anymore, though.

i had a mouse come into my old apartment once last year. i left for the rest of the day and never heard of it again. problem solved.

Little trick i heard, and it actually makes a lot of sense. If you're going to use just a standard old mouse trap (peanut butter, not cheese), set it, then slide it gently into a small brown paper bag, and set it down. Then, if the mouse does go for it, there is no clean up, or even seeing the carcass. Just pick up the bag, and throw it in the neighbors garbage.
