I've been using the same pair of Sennheiser HD25s for almost ten years now, I can't recommend them highly enough.

With no hint of exaggeration, good quality headphones revolutionised the way I hear music.

(I think that's the correct model I've linked to, I'm doing this from my phone.)

Those ones are great. I've heard them at work. But for the money I'd spend the extra $50 and get the 598s.

I have 2 sets of Sennheiser HD 497s. They are the best headphones I have ever owned. And I got them crazy cheap from J&R.

Oh yeah, for sure.

I guesss it depends on what 'doks needs them for. The HD25s are closed-back and great for use on the street/public transport.

Good point. I guess it just depends how much outdoor public transport use they'll get. If the answer is "just once in a while" I'd go with the 598s and if they're a problem just do what Jorge did and get a cheaper pair for the subway. If the answer is "all the time" then he might want to consider the ones you linked to.

I used them outside for a couple weeks and the sound is still great but honestly, it's not the best use for them. Being open-ear, there's a lot of noise bleeding in and out. Unless you like the sound of your surroundings to mix into the music (and pretend it's some sort of citypiece concept album), they're best for home use.

I use these headphones for outside; they're pretty decent sound and really cheap. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-RP-HTX7 ... ic+rp+htx7

Upgrading my "commuting" pair of headphones.
About to buy these off of Amazon.

Anyone looking for a good pair of running headphones should check out the Koss KSC75s. I have (stupidly) spent $100+ on running headphones and none have sounded better than the KSC75s. These generally will cost you less than $20.

Yes, they are not in-ear headphones. They clip onto your ears. They would be perfect for you strat, as they act like mini earmuffs. Great for a cold weather runner, which is why I only wear them for about half the year here in AZ.

Holy hell, these are amazing.

thodes, these are the headphones for you, especially if you're going to be taking them outside. The sennHD598s still have slightly better sound, but these are unbelievable. Very comfortable, too.

Took this picture yesterday. These are all the headphones I've owned for the last year or so.

The Audio Technica ATH-M50s on the right are my latest addition. I'm seriously loving them.
