I didn't surf once this summer. Haven't repaired the ding in my longboard back from March. I dinged it moving it when we got new carpet. Haven't surfed since that awful frigid cold day in December.

Been a bad summer for me too, friend. Mostly because it's been Lake Atlantic out there. Fix that ding for fall/winter!

Oh I did surf on a rented foam board in San Diego for about 45 minutes if that counts. Sooooo cold.

I was bodyboarding with my girlfriend's son a few times this summer. Water is way too warm right now. I always feel like I'm swimming in the bath water of the thousands of other people that are out on the beach that day.

I almost missed this bump. Checked it out yesterday. We actually had some nice waves here last week, but I was too p*ssy to put the wetsuit on and get in. Haven't been out since fullsuit weather has arrived.
I'm gonna have to man up on the next good day and get out there.

Hopefully the thunderstorms cooperate just a little bit. I'll be excited just to get one nice little ride for the first time in forever.

Yeah, we are supposed to get some swell from that storm lurking off the southeast coast. I'm off this weekend but I'm afraid all the decent spots will be crowded with tourists. :/

Maybe the coolest surfing experience ever yesterday. So it's about 2 p.m. and before we left to head back down the coast I decided we had to go surf one more time to get the most out of the weekend possible. Being the middle of the day on Memorial we knew it would be crazy crowded but decided to go anyway. So we got dressed, went outside to load up the boards and realize there's a wicked storm coming in from the west. Screw it, we're going anyway.
So as we get to the inlet and are walking up to the beach there's a mass exodus underway as everybody is desperately trying to beat the storm out. We get in the water and maybe 1-2 minutes later it starts raining, then within another minute or two the downpour starts. My friend and I are the only people out there now, wondering if this is the stupidest or the greatest thing we've ever done. So an interesting thing happens, which is that as the rain started coming it totally killed the wind. Before and after the storm it was crazy windy, which made it so choppy it was practically unsurfable 1-2ft windchop. But as the storm went on, the winds died and it was just about as clean as I've ever seen Florida waves. Sets rolling in, lefts and rights, just beautiful. I had a few nice, long rides. You know the type: when you finish you have a stupid dopey grin on your face and you don't even care. It was amazing. As soon as the torrential downpour was over the winds got back on it and pretty much killed it. By that time everybody started coming back again. But man, for that 30 or 40 minutes or so, it was paradise.

I strive for that dopey grin every time out, friend.
