what's a typical sitka winter like?
More mild than the midwest, northeast, etc. I think the coldest I can ever remember was 8*F and that was with windchill. That was ages go. We only get a couple feet of snow over the entire winter. Ranges from the teens to the 40s on a regular basis.

In other words, mild. =]
that's not too far off from our winters here...we rarely get snow though

It's been a cool July here so far, only in the low 100's. Come August, it's usually at least 115*F and even though it's a dry heat, it's still fricken hot (I've lived where it's been hot and humid).
