Anyone in here suffer from it?
For the first time ever last night I simply could not go to sleep. I eventually ended up going into my office at 5 AM to work. By 9 I was exhausted, so went home, only to find that I could not sleep (again!)

Yeah, it happens with me quite often. This week I've managed to fall asleep somehow right after turning the lights off but I can't quite figure out how to get around it, I've tried everything.

if it's something that has never happened before, i'm pretty sure it's just the result of some problems you have, anxieties you experience. try to deal with what's troubling you. then you'll probably be able to sleep well again.
you may also be overworked.
When I struggle to fall asleep, which isn't often, I can begin to see how people with insomnia can become a little detached. I feel so loopy when I don't get much sleep two or three nights in a row.
I agree with TheRealOne, you may have something going on whether it's obvious or not, that is keeping you from falling asleep properly. Take care of that, and you should be cured.

I didn't sleep well for almost a year, just couldn't drop off. I would lie there exhausted, trying to drift but it wasn't happening. After a week, I went to the doctor and he gave me tamazepan, and that sorted it out overnight.
You do lose a night's sleep every so often, but I'd try drink or smoke tonight to set you down. If you don't sleep tonight or over the weekend (and I mean a good night's sleep) go see your doctor, because reality starts getting pretty blurry after a couple of days.

i go through terrible bouts of insomnia that can last months. the way i cure it, as i do with most of life's problems, is a steady consumption of alcohol.

It's very annoying lying in bed, wanting to sleep but not being able to! Thanks for the advice though; I'll maybe take a bit of alcohol or something to help me drift off.
I keep on thinking that I'm going to see the auras of people and little bald doctors running about killing people soon like in the Stephen King novel

I have it off an on. I'm so used to it these days...I just deal w/ in for a few sleepless nights and by the 3rd or 4th night I'm too tired to think.
if it's really bad, you could try Valerian, it's a natural sleep aid, or have the dr. perscribe you something. there's over the counter stuff too. I don't take sleep aids b/c i fear addiction....but there are some that are low-addictive or non-addictive.
Tylenol PM will pass you out but it's not sleep, really. works in a pinch, though!
the best thing to do if you can't sleep is don't try to sleep. watch TV or read a book or surf the interweb...whatever. forcing yourself to sleep only makes it worse.

I wasn't sure whether I should bring up Ralph, not too sure if anyone else had read it. Attempting that doorstep could at least fill your sleepless hours.

I know. It was VERY annoying last night.
Really though, my complaint is small compared to some of you guys... If I could not sleep for three days I think I'd go nuts. I've been awake for 35 hours atm and reality is getting a bit... strange

well.
i am probably a little freakazoid...but it's not like I haven't slept in 10 years. It just happens every now and again, usually when i'm stressed out or have a lot going on.
