My place of work has a form (to order the dangerous drugs that have to be kept under lock and key, like Morphine, Oxycontin and the like), and the form to order the drugs from the hospital pharmacy has printed on it: THIS IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. Now, every other form in the joint is a legal document, so why not this? And if something happened (like a bunch of drugs went missing) and it somehow ended up in court, this paper would presumably become pertinent.

So, the question is, what defines a 'legal document' and can you deny something is a legal document by simply printing on it that it is not?

This might be one for PD...

I'd say a legal document is anything without the words "THIS IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT" printed on it.

If i had to guess, it would be to make it clear that the item is an order form, not a form that can be used as a prescription. For instance, so a customer can't snatch a package of order forms and then try and pass them off at other pharmacies.

I've been nursing in this hospital for over 9 years and that never ocurred to me. It makes total sense. Good one, edzeppe.

ADVICE PROVIDED VIA THIS MESSAGE BOARD DOES NOT CONSTITUTE LEGAL ADVICE.

There are exceptions to every rule, Skitchy.
