I see. Good luck. I'm not looking forward to being in that situation a year from now.

The MFA or graduate school in general? The MFA is particularly frustrating because acceptance is mostly subjective. For example, girl from our undergrad last year got denied at Indiana (15th) and Arizona (26th) but accepted at UVA (5th). Because of this, I'm applying to ten programs to cover my bases. But graduate school in general is a bitch. The GRE is $160, which has probably been the most annoying part of the whole process (the price, not the test itself).

Also, thanks. Will keep RM updated.

those videos are sad and accurate. I got lucky with my job. It's not the norm.

With my employer, grad school is not required but everyone in middle management or higher has at least a Masters, so it's pretty much expected that if you want to climb the corporate ladder you will get one. It's more test to see if you are serious about your field or if you just got the ungrad degree in a "hot" vocation. Also, I suspect it's helpful when making contract proposals that you can say "we will dedicate XXX many MBAs, Masters, and PhDs to your need."

Haha, my art side is pretty weak, so i don't see an MFA in my future. Just general grad school (Masters, not PhD).

That would have been a class-A post if you'd linked to Wonderboy's account.

Discuss.

Also I'd like to know if anyone here has a graduate degree and how satisfied they were with the experience. Particularly a business degree...

It depends on what you think you want to do with it.

Went to grad school full-time for a year; thoroughly enjoyed it.

Got a decent job that's paying for the remainder of my schooling (that I'm currently sitting at waiting for the Thanksgiving days off).

Locked down the "(very serious) girlfriend" mentioned earlier. We got engaged two weekends ago.

If I've never been to graduate school before, will I get it if I jump in now?

Master of Science in Finance. I find the economy, stocks, and markets really fascinating. Not only that but no classes til 5 pm was pretty rad as well. Of course the gig I got is Corporate Finance, no stocks or economics in sight.

The people who were older (30ish and above) that hadn't been in school for a while had to work a little harder since it wasn't fresh. But there certainly wasn't anyone not passing in my courses.

Some courses were heavy on Corporate Finance (simple algebra), most were Excel heavy (linking and building financial statements), and several were quite heavy in statistics (stock behavior) and calculus (macro- & micro-economics, portfolio optimization). The MBA would be a little less math-intensive and with several more management-style courses, but generally a lot of overlap.
