Man. Sometimes I forget how isolated I am. Fall here means mega wind/rain storms. Sustained winds of 30-50mph, gusts of 70-90, easily. If it rains enough, there are major landslides that usually take out some of the electrical structure, etc. We run on hydro power, and the hydroplant is a ways out, set in the mountains, blah blah. Yesterday we had a major storm and the power went out. Apparently a huge tree, and some trees near it fell and took out the main power line into town and two towers.

Gulp.

We now have rolling blackouts for 3 days while we wait for them to get the supplies they need and rebuild! You never realize how much you value electricity until you don't have it.

Phones aren't even working properly. Just got a local call on my cell three times, I couldn't hear him except every third word, and vice versa.

In the U.S. military, if you get stationed at a base in Alaska, it is considered an "overseas" assignment.
