9 out of 10 children prefer crayons to guns - or something like that.

Thanksgiving 2002. My wife and I were hosting our first Thanksgiving at out apartment. Our landlord had just installed a brand new stove in our apartment, replacing the antique that had been there previously. My wife turned on the oven and about 5 minutes later, there was a horrible, putrid black smoke coming from the oven.

I opened the broiler to find the directions for the new stove, still wrapped in plastic, sitting the broiler pan, on fire. I quickly ran it out onto the patio and put it out, but not before filling the entire apartment withe the smell of burned plastic. The smell lingered all day. Awesome.

I'm that one kid that chose the gun.

Nice work, PD!

True story: My dad stored his birthday cake IN the oven. I picked up a couple take & bake Nick & Willy's pizzas on my way home from work, tossed my bags down on the counter when I got home, and quickly preheated the oven before getting settled in.

After 10 minutes I went to put the first pizza in, and to my horror there was Dad's birthday cake. All sorts of melty in the oven.

This thread reminds me of my "got sprayed by a skunk and subsequently burned down the house" story.

I left a pan of boiling water on the stove while I was away at a 2 hour class. That was scarier than when I let the kitchen sink fill up and overflow while I went grocery shopping.

When I was like 17 I came home late high as a kite, and put an ellio's pizza in the toaster oven then went into my room and fell asleep like the second I sat down. My parents woke me up screaming at me the next morning that I almost burnt the house down. The best part is, they didnt turn the toaster oven off, they yelled at me first, then I went and turned it off and went back to sleep.
