We're not going to spend it with either family, we can't go anywhere, can't roast chestnuts on an open fire, christmas dinner will be mediocre because a 1 year old and 4 year old won't appreciate it, there will only be a couple of presents, I don't know... what does everyone else do? See, my boyfriend always had a big traditional family christmas, and i always had lots of presents, but with neither of those things, i'm not sure what to do!

watch a classic christmas movie and make that the tradition
I appreciate that but i'm totally stuck for ideas because my kids are too young to sit down and watch a movie. We make Christmas decorations anyway... I would say it's not a big deal because my oldest child is only four, but he's already becoming very demanding. He wants snow, family, and lots of presents!

If you don't mind my asking, why isn't it being spent with either family? distance?
Because my other half's sisters family keeps pulling out, and my family don't generally celebrate christmas much - if that makes sense. Bit stuck, mecca. I wan't to make it nice for the kiddos.

I'd say bake something together. Gingerbread, pie, pudding... I don't know. Get the kids involved. Let them get messy, get their hands dirty and help create. Even if it fails and is barely edible, there is a sense of achievement and family in creating a meal or dish together.
Go for a walk around your neighbourhood. Look at Christmas lights and snow and window decorations. Pick out your favourites.
Do an art project and get the kids to paint or draw or create a collage about their favourite things about Christmas. Participate and make one too.
Look through photo albums with them and talk about the important people in your and their lives.
Put a blanket on the floor and have a Christmas dinner/lunch in front of the tree.

Hahaha, I know...
I love kids. I love spending time with them, helping them with projects, playing the fool for them, making up stories and games and words... I can't help it.
