Why not just "six"? Just say "six".

To the original question. Why say a "decade" and not "ten years"? Why say "drop a deuce" and not "go number 2", why say "Half dollar" and not "50 cents"?

I've literally never heard that phrase in my life. Then again, Southeast Texas isn't quite the same as "the south".
