Hey cool, I can conceal my favorite beverage right next to the dirtiest part of my body, and pour a glass full of whiskey at a ball game right after I just walked out of the piss riddled bathroom. Awesome.
I wonder if it's like an ugly water bed for your feet.
I wanted to go see Chris cornell at the Vic here in Chicago last night... however taking the risk with only 10 bucks in my pocket, no ticket and a lone woman in the city...just didnt sound like a good idea. Just seemed fitting...

I think cutting down on ellipses will solve about 40 percent of your problems here.
i like elipses-ses-ses
Think about it the human mind does not convert thought into a singular sentence with a definate "." alone. When I write, there about 6000 other things flying just from that one thought spurring and spewing mega trains of thought. Nor do I write the complete thought behind a sentence because basically my hands dont work as fast as my mind. Ellipses work well when it comes to explaining the basic venacular of my train of thought.

I guess I just find them intentionally confusing and unnecessary. Want a pause? Use a period. Want to convey that time has continued to tick away? Say so. Or protract the writing.
Re: kosmicejeli's point that writing is insufficient to represent all the huge fast staff going on in her head, there's always something else to convey, of course your mind continues after you've written a sentence, or even continues chugging along as you write. But I think, I don't know, this is lazy bad, short-hand, the effect of which is really ambiguous. And ambiguity that hasn't been earned.

Well I haven't written for radio, but I have written for student paper, and rarely (if ever) would you find something like that in hard news. Possibly in a column. But editorial, review of the arts, and most beats would not use them.

I find when you're reading it out loud they denote pauses much more obviously and the anchors screw up reading them less if they didn't have time to do a pre-read.

Of course, but what I'm writing isn't seen by the consumer. I'm writing for the ear not the eye.

So what function do they have in your work? To indicate a pause to the reader?

Yep. Used in place of commas or semi-colons.
