The force is strong with this one.

I predict that fifty years from now music won't even be music at all. You'll go to buy your favorite band's newest record (or whatever the equivalent is at the time), open the jewel case (or whatever the equivalent is at the time), and instead of a CD (or...you know) there'll be a candy bar and a cardboard cutout of a duck. Pitchfork will give it an 8.7, lauding its "defiance of conventional consumer expectations...a format-bending exercise in which the listener is challenged to consider the value of being a listener at all, which in turn necessitates retroactive revision of all the music ever made since the beginning of time, counterintuitively rendering Lunar Carpet Blackout's Sugar and Feathers at once the most meaningless album ever made and also the single most definitive." It will henceforth spawn legions of lesser rogues content to rip off the idea of stuffing their packaging with nonmusical items, and by the year 2200, college music theory classes will actually be courses on how to repair antique lawnmowers. Students will laugh distinguished laughs at the idea that music used to be "musical" the same way our generation looks back on the early church's banning of the tri-tone interval for being "so dissonant it must be the devil at work." And it will be progress.

The strings in "Parting Ways" are so lame. Aren't they just playing the scale? sheesh
"Damn those philistines! In prep school they'd have been laughed straight out of Brahms club."

That must be it. Whenever these hipster indie types are involved, I always wrongly assume there must be something to "get." I should have long learned that the joke always ends up being on me.
You should probably let go of this preconception. Young people wearing colorful clothes are nothing to be afraid of.
You just keep on thinking that. But when the revolution comes and the indies are pomplamoosing your trusting head onto a stake in the middle of the town square to the tune of "Keep the Car Running," don't call out for me--I'll be in my bunker with rations and my Frank Sinatra box set (the Capitol stuff--not that renegade Reprise material when he started covering those worrisome "Beatles") playing quietly but defiantly on repeat.
Fuckers.

I'm nominating him. Y'all can say yay/nay, then we can start the actual recruiting process.
There are things to consider. Like he seems vehemently anti-hipster. Does he know I kind of look like a hipster? And Mickey? And Liz? Will he be able to look past the vests and the blazers and the tight pants and see us for what we are?
And what does he think about the resident cap-and-beard populace? Does he himself have a beard? He sounds like a man with a beard. Can we deal with another beard in GD?

Kevin Davis would be an excellent addition to our forum here, Jorge. Let's make it happen.

I'm all about Kevin Davis. I've ever heard some call him "the next durdencommatyler." Though I don't have any idea what that might mean, I'll welcome him here with open arms. But only if/when he's ready.
