IMHO, Pearl Jam sticks out like a sore thumb in that line-up. Jay, Drake, D'Angelo are all good performers, still at the top of their games, but they are pop music. Pearl Jam are the token nostalgia middle-age suburbanite act in line-up and I don't think that is how most of us see them (maybe, more accurately want to see them). I have no problem mixing in different music styles in a show, it's one of the things that kept Lollapolooza interesting, but those particular acts don't appeal to a lot of PJ fans. Plus this a blatantly corporate driven event, with the obnoxious "Made In America" tag line, and InBev isn't even an American company.

...And it's just a disappointment after seeing a solid tour of Canada, a long overdue tour of SA, and a great tour plan for Europe that we are stuck with a third festival set.

they dont stick out any more than any other festival. they are the token headlining 90s act. every festival has one, and usually only one or two.

I don't see all the fuss about the pair. Some festivals combine one style of music so you can overdose on it and some combine a variety of styles so that you can try new stuff. This is the latter.

Pearl Jam fans will probably get good seating b/c a lot of Jay-Z fans will wonder off or leave outright when PJ takes the stage.

The average Jay-Z fan is probably less dangerous than that nut that got drunk and thrown out of half the PJ shows on the 2006 tour or that dude who called Jeff Ament's house.

The past few years I have joked with my friends that I would love to see Pearl Jam and Odd Future together... Who'd have ever though that it would actually happen. I think this is a kick ass show.

Rumor I hear is it's going to be a bit of an Obama rally (which def makes sense why they had our mayor announce a music fest). That would kinda explain why PJ would bother show up.

But really, $100+ to stand on the parkway, staring at backs and elbows while maybe hearing the songs I usually leave to pee during and "Fortunate Son"?

Meh. Maybe if I can work the event and make some money while I'm there.

My sentiments EXACTLY. Tickets are now approaching $175 (including the service fee)...so yeah, I'm not going. Have priorities and this isn't one of them.

Totally get why you'd feel that wAy at the Spectrum but don't you agree with the folks who said with this lineup in Philly, it shouldn't be an issue? Do you think all the non-whites are gonna bolt before PJ ? If so that'd be a damned shame, b/c I really think they WILL open some people's eyes and ears and hearts at this show... People who wouldn't have listened before get hit with them live and BAM! Some of them, maybe not the majority but some, are gonna feel it to their core. And I think thats why PJ is doing this. To encourage those who have the potential to discover how moved they can be by other genres.

Yeah, but right now funds are tight. If I can work it out financially I will get my ticket and go. But as I said, I do not want to support JayZ or Anheuser Busch. :|

I respect that. It's a conflict for me too, but at this stage of their career and my life, I'm not missing them unless I have to.

He could've tuned in, tuned in
But he tuned out
A bad time, nothing could save him
Alone in a corridor, waiting, locked out
He got up outta there, ran for hundreds of miles
He made it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree
The wind rose up, set him down on his knee

You know I, thug 'em, fuck 'em, love 'em, leave 'em
Cause I don't fuckin' need 'em
Take 'em out the hood, keep 'em looking good
But I don't fuckin feed 'em
First time they fuss I'm breezing
Talking 'bout, "What's the reasons?"
I'm a pimp in every sense of the word, bitch
Better trust and believe 'em
In the cut where I keep 'em
'til I need a nutt, 'til I need to beat the guts
Then it's "beep beep" and I'm picking them up
Let 'em play with the dick in the truck

I long for the good old days when Pearl Jam didn't pander to the Democrats.

Oh, is it sort of like when GnR did Rocket Queen live and added the rap section?
