Philly 7.5.03 has to be mentioned. I have never, ever, ever, ever heard anybody make the sounds from a guitar that Mike made that night. Go back and listen.

First of all, This is an amazing thread. I have always thought about making a cd of my top 15-17 favorite versions of Black. I am going to get on that now and include a bunch of your suggestions.
I have been to 35 shows, so I have heard black a ton of times, but that never gets old. The song is so special because it has its own energy that is unique. Black makes you stop. Black is like nothing else because it isnt a song, it's balck and that carries its own life. Its amazing how many times this song has taken on new forms and evolved, but it's always balck and always there, and always the most beautiful god damned thing you've ever heard.
I have a few versions I love.
Berrie 98
Buffalo 03
Benaroya ( cause its me singing- and everyone else that was there of course)
Toronto 00
Boston 04--- that was a moment
Peace

I know everyone has his/her favorite rendition of black, so here is mine: Hartford 10-2-96. The old days of black featured great stuff- "we belong together", "i take a walk outside..." and nowadays black has some great things- extended solo, crowd singing, ed holding the note of "all i'll ever be"- but in this version from the Irons era, Ed and Mike work off eachother like no other time. Mike's solo carries Eddie into some improv "come on back to bed...how could I make you stay...come on back to bed...we could be...we could be...we could be heroes for just one." AMAZING!
im listening to this version now. amazing.

There are a couple from 2000 I really like....they have the extended solo plus the "we belong together" tag....I just cant remember which shows right now....

Portland and Dallas (I think as I don't have it) have it as well.

this has to be my favorite as well. it has Eddie holding the "all i'll be" line and that effect Mike has going just puts it over the top of all other versions i've heard. give it a listen if you haven't already.
Anyone know where I could download this show? I haven't heard it, the tag sounds cool.
I listened to this show Tuesday driving through the hell that is Hartford and I-84. Black was tagged with a Bowie song, I think Heroes. It blew me away.
This was my first Pearl Jam concert. I was like 16 at the time. What a great night. The Black from Boston 03 and the one from the Boston Vote for Change warm up show last fall was amazing. I love this song.

albuquerque 2000 is my favorite version. atlanta 94 and unplugged are on everyones list of the top versions.
benaroya i still think is overrated for some reasons - the solo isn't too fantastic, and ed doesn't sound too great at the beginning before the end "faster" part. i think it's just because i'm not a fan of black post-2000.

Black at the 1st KeyArena 2002 show was freaking intense as hell. Mike was on fire and the whole crowd was just going apeshit with him.
