This is the thread where we talk about the real stinkbombs. Why? What happened? What made it suck? Even a band as amazing as Pearl Jam lays an egg every now and then.
The one I remember was Chicago 2003. I had such high hopes but when Ed came out it was plainly obvious he was really sick. Musically the band is pretty on but on the whole the show was just off. The setlist was cool (Release, Light Years, Grievance, Present Tense, Arc) but the encores were pretty predictable and not very inspired. Easily the worst of the seven shows I've been to.
Pearl Jam shows: Champaign 4/23/2003 Chicago 6/18/2003 St. Louis 10/05/2004 Portland 7/20/2006 Gorge 7/22/2006 Ridgefield 9/26/2009 Philadelphia 10/31/2009

There are more than a few stinkers from the 2003 Australian tour. I first got really into PJ just after the 1998 Aus tour finished (why couldn't it have been a coupla months earlier, why! ) so you could imagine how pumped I was to finally see my favourite band live come 2003.
From the opening flubbed first verse of Small Town, the Melbourne shows I saw in 03 never came even half-way close to reaching the standards I'd hoped for after years of spinning 2000 boots. They just sounded... flat. It took until the Japan leg for them to get their groove on and the US tour speaks for itself.
Looking back over those setlists, they were made of the stuff we'd drool over these days (Sleight of Hand, Breath, Rival, Footsteps) but the uninspired way in which they were performed unfortunately left me a tad disappointed. Needless to all was forgiven after seeing the boys on the 2006 tour

I thought the first US leg in 2006 was pretty mediocre, they really didn't get cooking til the West Coast shows and were on fire through Europe and Australia. I'm convinced the reason that tour gets so little love is that none of the East Coast fanboys saw any of the great shows that year.

I disagree. There were plenty of amazing US leg shows that I thought overall made a bigger impression on me than most of the Europe/Australia shows. Grand Rapids/Cleveland/Detroit is an amazing trio.
If I would pick a pretty lousy bootleg from recent memory, it would be Philly II. They were so sloppy in the middle I thought they needed an early encore break. The Evacuation-Come Back-No Way part is very difficult to listen to.

Night 2 was indeed pretty bad, but I think Deep>Habit>Cropduster from night 3 is even more horrifying. They must have been really, really drunk judging by how badly they played. It's certainly not the brilliant moment that people who were there make it out to be.

Yeah I've come to terms with the fact that the Philly run was rather underwhelming. Except for Philly 3's encore 1.

I think that as a whole, it was very good. As stand alone shows though, 3 stands out some but the others are just good, not great. 4 is kind of a mess even though some of the rarities are great, and one and two are just kind of run of the mill shows.

Yeah, this.
