I was thinking about this the other day, blame it on the pot if you must but I was debating to myself about the RVM of the past and now. I love the little jam they put in it but do you think that it takes away from the meaning of the song. I mean everything about the song is fast paced and the lyrics are about getting out of a bad situation as fast as you can.

So my question is, do you like the old live versions of RVM or todays better and why?

I don't know because I love both versions but I am at a dilema with myself about it.

Peace

Sleater-Kinney was a great band and they are greatly missed.

Not at all, if anything I think the jam is a time for reflection

I love RVM jams.

They have that "experimental" feel to it, rather than an extended solo (i.e. even flow).

The band was in peak form with their extended versions in '05. I've heard the best versions of Black, Even Flow, Betterman, Daughter, Alive, etc. all from this past year.

agree... the jams on this last tour were AWESOME

except for Porch? Porch was actually under 4 mins on a few shows even?

I love he long jams though. It shows their routes and inspirations from those great 60's bands.... (Zeppelin, Hendrix, The doors, so on)

My fav version of RVM might still be from my first PJ concert, East Troy 2000.... Eddies soft slow intro, and when Jeff comes in after the jam... what a way to end a cold cold night.

i love the studio verison but i do like the little jams in the middle cause it slows things down and then when the lead riff comes back in its a good build up to the bridge

I believe it was in 1998, but man that was when i fell in love with this delightful jam. It hit home and i think it was the lights, and the pot as well that kicked this home for me.

Wow you got my memories going now about that great 2 weeks i took in 98 to follow these guys.

Heh, the times they do fly by.

Most of the time this jam is way too long. I think it's one of their most boring jams too. Too repetitive.

A short RVM is kickass tho.
