For those of you who think Boston gets special treatment, I'd like to offer up an explanation:
Better yet, buy the boot from last night's show. I don't know how many times we as a crowd were louder than Eddie, and I have NEVER, EVER seen Eddie smile so much during a show.
They like us because we like them....and we make it a point to show them just how much we love them by being a loud and energetic crowd.
I went to this year's Albany show: the crowd was fucking dead and Ed was up on stage working like a dog to get the crowd into it, Ithink he even changed the set list to play Elderly Woman earlier so that the crowd would start singing along. Eddie said something like: "We are playing this song at this point in the set to remind you that even though I am up here doing the singing, you can sing too."
Hmm...I bet they LOVE to play cities where they have to remind the crowd that this is a GODDAM ROCK SHOW SO GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND SING WITH ME.
Seriously, if you were a member of a rock band, would you want to go and play a bunch of special shows for people who stand with their arms crossed and barely move a muscle, or would you want to play a bunch of special shows for people who sing at the top of their lungs and dance till they drop?
Boston has had their bad shows (night I 04 was especially lame) but by in far, we rock them down to a nub just as much as they rock us down to a nub.
If you want shows like Boston (and Philly and NYC and Chicago and Seattle) gets, then talk to your buddies and start to really make some noise.
Otherwise, come to Boston (or any of the other cities listed) and share in the fun.
love,
kiddo

does anyone outside of any other city (boston) really care about said city(boston)?

Seriously, fuck Boston, they get all the cool PJ shit. Why do they need to get the honor of Alone, I've Got A Feeling (the last TWO times it was played) and now possibly Leash? I can't for the life of me figure out why Ed and the band have such a raging hard-on for that town.
for some reason, there are a lot of people who hate boston for getting such attention. i don;t understand it either.
seattle gets all those small venue shows, something we could never hope for in boston, yet i don't see a lot of "seriously, fuck seattle" comments.

Albany is an amazing show. And I doubt I will like Boston 1 more than Albany, I'm not too fond of the Boston 1 setlist.
did you go to the albany show? ed was struggling with his voice and the crowd was practically asleep.
a set list does not convey the energy of the show. listen to the boot.

I'm with you here. Just looking at the Boston 1 setlist now, and it doesn't overly impress. There have definitely been better so far this leg.

philly gets some amazing energy going...up until last night, my "best show" was the october 3, 05 philly show (and i've been to the old garden, all those boston 03 shows, and oodles of other shows tagged as "special".)
my list of places to see PJ:
1. Seattle
2. Chicago
3. NYC
4. Las Vegas
5. my livingroom

I don't think people hate the fact that Boston gets great shows. People hate the fact that people always have to bring up that Boston gets great shows. Kinda like this thread.
The reason you don't see people saying "fuck seatte" is because you don't see people always mentioning that Seattle gets great shows.

I don't understand this "big PJ city" thing. Maybe it's just due to lack of experience, but from my shows, the crowd in Kitchener was about as loud as Montreal & Toronto combined.

I'm right with you. I didn't comment on the crowd/energy b/c I was not there. I just don't see "special treatment" based on the set, that's all.
it's the 2003 shows that gets people peeved...we got three shows with only one or two repeated songs. then we got two shows during the VFC tour, which is really sort of amusing because MA was so not a swing state.
but after the CA tour, philly got the love. that's okay with me. they totally deserve it.

im very content to see them in pittsburgh where the past four times i have seen them here (3 times as a headliner, once as an opener) they have gotten nothing but love from the crowd with the singalongs and the infamous hollywood squares interaction
maybe everyone should suck pittsburghs dick since pj decided that was the place to open for the stones?

this thread was meant to explain why we get lots of shows. and i have to respectfully disagree: people bitch and moan ALL THE TIME about how boston gets special treatment. i am officially sick of it so i am posting about it.
my point is that people outside of boston are the ones making hte big deal out of it. i think punkdavid's comment is fairly representative of this.
read it again, then go to the boston setlist thread and read how many people were whining about "what if boston gets leash?"
i actually hate the song leash. you guys can have it.
i'll stop talking about how great boston is when you guys stop whining about how boston gets special treatment.
