From Neiljam5:

March 1, 2007
BY JIM DeROGATIS Pop Music Critic
The major headliner for year three of the retooled Lollapalooza concert will be none other than the band that became the breakout superstar of the old Lollapalooza back in 1992: Seattle's godfathers of grunge, Pearl Jam.
The three-day concert will take place in Grant Park from Aug. 3-5, and Lollapalooza promoters don't plan on announcing the 130-band lineup or putting tickets on sale for several weeks, until late March or early April. They declined to comment on any of the acts Wednesday.

Nevertheless, three concert industry sources confirmed that fans may expect Evanston native Eddie Vedder and his band to perform on Chicago's lakefront as part of a U.S. tour that will follow a European jaunt that has already been announced in June, and which includes several major music festivals.

Pearl Jam's last self-titled album was released in May 2006. Its most recent recording is a cover of "Love Reign O'er Me" by Vedder's heroes the Who, which will appear on the soundtrack of "Reign Over Me," the forthcoming film directed by Mike Binder and starring Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle.

Man, this would so kick all kinds of ass if it comes to fruition.

I've been to the last two Lollas, and they were both highlights of the year for me. Chicago is a great place for it, and with Ed's ties there, I'm sure it's something they would definitely consider doing, so I am hoping this rumor, which already has steam by appearing in a "reliable" news source, comes to be.

I'm giddy just thinking about it.

I'm more excited about the possibility of a US tour.

Well, yeah. But this is a Lolla thread, right? I think it is anyway.

:P

Yeah, same here. I was thinking about hitting up London and/or Dusselfdorf, but at this point I'd have to pay out the ass for tix. Plus, the US would just be so much more convenient.

But yeah, this IS a Lolla thread, so carry on...

EDIT: Any other rumours on who else is supposed to be playing?

damn... if only they played it last year haha...
I went the first day to see SK's 3rd to last show, but couldnt get anyone else to go all 3... so i only did the one day pass...
hopefully the lineup is as awesome as it was last year...

really though, PJ should have played last year, tell me if you catch the common theme with these bands...

My Morning Jacket
Sleater-Kinney
Death Cat 4 Cutie (all 3 played back to back first night)

Wolfmother
Sonic Youth
Sparta

and uummm i think im forgetting a few?
but yeah, theyre all bands that opened for PJ within the last few years...

and add on the RHCP whom PJ opened for... (THAT WAS ALL LAST YEAR)

Yeah, if I can, I can. No big loss, I actually thought the secret sale was going to be closer to April. Oh well.

Still waiting, just hope it will pan out.

I've been in the Waiting Room for about 90 minutes or so. Not much hope that there will still be tickets left if I ever get out of it. Nice offer, but not much chance after the first minute or two it seems.
