1995's broadcast is the better one for the following reasons:
-the calibre of the band's guests that evening
-the quality of the live performances
-Novoselic's reading of his demented work in progress
-conversation w/ Mike Watt (and Ed's brutal mispronounciation of the title Foucault's Pendulum)
-Jack Iron's drumming
-Walking the Cow
What do you think?

It's fucking YEARS since I've heard Self-Pollution and Monkeywrench FM. I can barely remember them to have an opinion. I'll go with 1995 because it's first, and the firsts of anything good are usually the best.

Jack Irons drums on the 1998 radio Broadcasts as well.
Plus, the comparison is very difficult considering there were far more radio broadcasts in 1995. Correct me if I am wrong, but there were only 2 radio broadcasts in 1998 - 1/31/98 (self pollution) and 3/5/98 (Australia).

If I'm not wrong, he's actually just comparing the two Self-Pollution broadcasts, not the other Monkeywrench FM broadcast shows.
1995 is awesome, but I've never had a copy of 1998, always wanted to get around to it, though.
In a head to head between the 1995 Self Pollution and the 1998 Self Pollution I have to say that 1995 wins easily by a knock out.
The 1995 was a huge event featuring live performances from Soundgarden, Mad Season, Mudhoney and the Fastbacks. Plus, of course, ten kick ass live songs from PJ. The energy of the songs was just freaking intense and the widespread popularity of the band and the audience anticipation was way bigger than it would be three years later.
By comparison, the 1998 Monkeywrench did not have the same caliber of live guest artists (IMO). No Soundgarden or Mad Season. Instead, Mudhoney played again as did Brad and local bands Zeke and Tautura.
Pearl Jam played less songs (8 compared to 10) and the overall energy and excitement from three years earlier seemed to be missing.
