Is there anyone else out there who is not seeing any shows this year, and who somehow cannot live vicariously through everyone else who is? I wish I could say I'm excited about the tour and about all the fun that everyone will be having in the coming weeks and months, but I can't. I'm totally bummed out.
Every other year, I tune in to the setlists knowing that my show is only two months away, or three weeks away, or whatever. My next show has not been announced yet, and the more news that comes out, the more it looks like I may be seeing the band in 2007 at the earliest, if they are still touring after Australia. I fear I'll see a new album before I see another show.
I'm jealous. Really jealous. There I said it.
I'm about ready to cry...

I'm sorry guys But Jeff talked about 80 some odd shows and so there is at least one more leg to go.

He also said they were skipping places they "really should be playing". Maybe I'm just being a pessimist, but I read that to mean that they wouldn't be coming back around to those areas.
And who knows, after OZ, they may decided it's time to go home and take a break and then go back to the studio (which would thrill 95% of people, I'm sure). Or maybe they'll do a quick 10 shows in August or October, although I think that's highly unlikely.
I'm thinking March at the earliest.

Hey PD, I'm going to San Diego but I totally feel pain about not seeing the guys here in Phoenix. I guess we should have been included in that comment by Jeff. I can't understand why they would skip the fifth largest city in the states, which they have hit every tour before and has had great crowds. I've been in contact with a local dj and he said the rumor was they would play here on July 5th but that's all it is is a rumor. Take it for what it's worth.

I got fucked on the whole Toledo 1996 fiasco. I really feel your pain. That year was a real roller coaster.
It was gonna be my first Pearl Jam concert. I didn't know I got tickets though the Ten Club and that was the year they were going off ticketmaster. So they announce the sale on the radio, I call for hours and find out the phone lines melted in 2 minutes. So, they announce another sale, and i call and call and call and they sell out.
Then I find out I get tickets through Ten Club (I don't know why, but the mailing came after the public sale that year), and I fill that shit out and send it back. But they didn't reserve enough seats because Toledo, Ohio, though is sounds podunk, is really close to Detroit and all the detroit fans swarmed the venue.
I wrote Pearl Jam a letter, bitched them out, and swore them off for a good two years until the materpiece of Yield came out and they gave me priority seating for that tour.
So, buck up ... you never know. Could be some really awesome Pearl Jam news in your future!

I feel your pain because I'm in Houston. Me and friend were talking this past weekend hoping they might come this way around October again, but that is looking like it won't happen.

I feel for ya. I'm in the same boat you are. I just hope they add more dates after Australia, and that wherever they are I get to go. By then I'll be settle in with transferring to another college, finding a place, and all of that. I'll still need money probably.

i'm in this boat as well. the thing that really kills me is that i went through a PJ hiatus from 1998 to 2003 and missed probably 6 shows in Texas that I'm now kicking myself in the ass for not seeing - stupid. who knows how much longer they're going to continue to tour, so missing out on those seems really foolish in hindsight.
i'm really fighting the urge to blow $800 or so and fly up to NYC to catch the East Rutherford shows.

I feel you, PD.
Like some others from the Valley, I am going to go to San Diego ... and I am very tempted to find a way to get to Vegas, as well.
I'm accustomed to at least having the option of seeing multiple shows in a given tour. (And I accept that living where I do I still have to travel somewhat to do so.)
Now that the Australian tour is official I'm actually hoping that they don't come back to the US until 2007. If they were to do October US shows I just think too many places would be skipped (ie, Phoenix). We'll see how it works out, hopefully they get back here to play us a show in support of this new album.

My life is complicated by a couple of other factors that make travel to a show virtually impossible. Firstly, the closest show to where I live is Vegas, and that’s about 5 hours drive (a/k/a “too far to drive home after the showâ€). It’s one thing to spend $60 on a ticket to the show, another entirely to spend that much or more on travel to the show, and then to need to get a hotel room as well. I know my wife would not be too jazzed about me leaving her with the two kids overnight to go see a show.
Although, I believe that for the Vegas show, she’s actually going to be out of town with the kids. We’re going to Santa Fe for the 4th of July weekend, I’m driving home on the 5th, and then she’s flying back that weekend. But I’d have to miss two days of work, and I’m really not willing to travel that far if I’m not going to have my Ten Club seats.
I told my wife that I was feeling a little down about this last night, and she was sweet, and asked me, “Well, when are they playing in San Diego?†But the truth is, I can’t ask her to let me do something crazy like this because of what I did last summer. My son was born last summer, July 21, and he was nearly three weeks early. From the day they went on sale, I had had tickets to see Dinosaur Jr on July 22, and I had been looking forward to it for months, as it was my only concert last year. My wife, who was still in the hospital, recovering from an emergency C-section and couldn’t even walk to the bathroom yet, let me go out for three hours to see this concert. I missed the opening bands, but I got to see my show, and I had a great time.
Thing is, my life is going so well right now, that I can’t complain about a concert. I’m bummed, but it’s the balance of karma, and I’m pretty happy about those things that are important.
It’s not going to stop me from bitching or providing a forum for bitching though, because that just makes for too good theater. So complain away, and later I’ll tell you about the show in Chicago that I’m not going to next Tuesday.

the chicago story is a good one. The gods are realigning the cosmos at PD's Pearl Jam expense.
