I'm making a live compilation of soundboard recordings for a friend who doesn't think Mike McCready is a great guitarist. He likes Pearl Jam somewhat, mostly Eddie's voice, but as a big fan of great guitarists he's been critical of the solos. The one song he loves, however, is "Porch."
Can anyone recommend soundboard versions of "Porch" from the official bootlegs or radio broadcasts over the years that I can add onto this disc? I'm gonna make it data so I can fit lots of music on it. I'd probably like to add some of Mike's best live work as well from other songs. Various versions of "Even Flow" come to mind. Any help that you guys can offer is much appreciated.

Well, if a compilation exists that's cool, but I'm just trolling through my spindles of bootlegs for good versions of it. The earlier versions sound more intense than they do nowadays even though the quality isn't as good, and yes, the Unplugged version will go on it. I'm not part of the TSIS hub nor do I know much about it, but I'll look for it. Thanks.

The "scorching" Porch's come from 94. My favorite is from St. Pete, however, that features a alot of Eddie improv which may overshadow Mike.
FYI, for what it's worth, Mike was rated the 6th most underrated guitarist of all time by RS
Yeah, I'm adding that St. Petersburg Porch onto this disc. I found a really intense one from '92, but the quality is kind of poor. I'm worried I might ruin the song for my buddy giving him all of these different versions at once, but its mostly for the jams and Mike's soloing. Its cool to hear the song evolve though, from early takes to the slow start Ed adds now, and every solo has something different and cool about it too.

I would recommend the Porch from the first night at the Gorge in 06, as well as Holmdel, NJ from the 03 tour. Both are pretty kick ass that your buddy won't be able to resist!

If you're looking for the longest and craziest Stone/Mike jams, Homdel 7/14/2003 is my favorite. Unbelievable work by Mike on that one. I still listen to it at least once a week.

Oooh, you need to put on the Little Wing/Maggot Brain with Chad Smith on drums from '95 (i think). It's about 10 minutes long, and Mike's lead work is amazing, and a lot more soulful than what you'd probably find from any Porch/Even Flow jam.

Stone made that Porch Gorge 06 in my opinion. He made that Fuckin' Up the next night as well.
For Mike I feel similarly to your friend sometimes. I prefer him slowed down and more groove, which I think he did well that 2nd leg of 06 with the exception of that garbage wankery at the end of every Ledbetter.
Check out the Garden from 4/3/94, he and Dave get locked in. I like the Even Flow from LO2L. I love how he starts out low on the neck and holds the notes so perfectly. His tone wasn't that screechy sound that he has produced on the last few tours. His Van Halenesque tone from the end of Yellow Ledbetter 9/1/98 is beautiufl to listen to and the recording is okay. He was throwing some Mad Season riffs into some of his solo's in 96. The end of Better Man from Buffalo 96 is great! (good recording there as well) You have to go with All or None from 7/11/03. The way he throws "Heartbreaker" in so effortlessly will win any guitar fan over. Immortality from 7/12/03 is very well executed but you might want to throw the Benoraya Hall version on. I'd throw a Life Wasted on there as well just to show how he can fit into a song instead of just take solos.
A Gossard compilation. Now that would be something to hear.
