I'm going to buy a couple of 2003 bootlegs and I'm wondering which ones are the best. From looking at the setlists, Pennsylvania seems pretty awesome... any thoughts?

All 4 Pearl Jam shows from PA that tour were awesome in their own way, but I'd recommend State College. If you're looking for energy/crowd reaction, go with 4/28. And if you never heard the RITFW from July 5th, you have to have that one too. 2003 was such a great tour.

2003 is my favorite tour.
I'd say start with some late July shows. 6/29/03 is incredible. 7/14/03 is probably my favorite all-around show of the tour. I don't think the Japan/Aussie shows compare to the American shows. I think you'll really like 5/2/03 (Buffalo, NY) and the last Mexico City show (7/19/03).

and why is the mt. view show so impossible to find? it was released, right? i can't find an mp3 version to save my life.
Yeah, it was released, and it's an underrated show. The band was so tight, and it was a rockin' show...not too many low points. This show combined with night 1 in Irvine the next night makes for a great back to back experience.

charlotte is one of my favorites of the not-as-well-known 03 shows. opens with sometimes, and they play in hiding, the man trilogy, breath, and sonic reducer.

boston 3 is good, especially for the acoustic set
Definitely agree with the first one, Charlotte is great.
Not so much agreeing on Boston 3...I find it waaay over-rated, yes, even the acoustic set. Sloppy as all hell.

eh, it may be sloppy, but hearing of the girl/sometimes/off he goes all next to each other just makes my day.

I think your best bet is to find pairs of shows from areas nearby (or even the same venue). Thats where you'll get the most variety of songs, the fewest repeats... If you look at them as one long show, they become amazing varied setlists encompassing more than the one off show where they randomly play a rarity.
the perfect example of this is Detroit 1- A ton of Binaural stuff (which is a rarity at this point) and a ton of VS. Not a very well regarded show on its own though... because the 2nd night overshadowed it
Set 1 Animal, Gods' Dice, Rival, Save You, Glorified G, Breath, I Am Mine, Love Boat Captain, Even Flow, Help Help, Nothing As it Seems, Given To Fly, Lukin, Corduroy, Daughter/(W.M.A.), Evacuation, Rearviewmirror Encore 1 Crazy Mary, I Believe In Miracles, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Bu$hleaguer, Do The Evolution Encore 2 Soon Forget, Baba O'Riley, Yellow Ledbetter
Detroit 2 - Heavy on the Vitalogy and No Code (relatively speaking). Considered a very solid setlist.
Set 1 Last Exit, Brain Of J., Hail Hail, Save You, In My Tree, Red Mosquito, Present Tense, Green Disease, Immortality, Sleight Of Hand, Whipping, Corduroy, Down, Leatherman, Nothingman, Better Man/(Save it for Later), Spin The Black Circle Encore 1 You Are, Even Flow, State Of Love And Trust, Black, Alive Encore 2 Leaving Here, Know Your Rights, Rockin' In The Free World
But if you combine the 2 shows, you end up getting a very large selection of songs with only a couple of repeats.
