My buddy gave me two pearl jam bootleg CASETTES over the weekend. They're freekin' sweet. They're both from '92. One they open the show up with "Redemption Song", something I didn't know they've ever done. I love the shit out of that song. The quality isn't the best, but it was cool to hear Eddie sing that song. The rest is basically just shit from Ten, and one of the shows they end with "I've Got A Feeling" Whoever made them tacked on some filler tracks, from the Christmas singles. So that's pretty awesome too since I'm not in the fan club and never get those. Finally got to hear the studio version of "Sonic Reducer", plus the original 45/casette quality of "Let Me Sleep" complete with "ramblings" from the band. They sound so gay and merry it isn't even funny. They're all "hey guys, it's pearl jam here der der der" and for a second I was thinking "oh god this is kind of painful, why do I like these guys" and then I remember because they're the greatest rock band on the fucking planet.

If the boot is really from 1992 the Redemption Song opener is their show from the Roskilde festival (their first appearance there). I have never heard that show and did not know it actually circulated. The most well known and well circulated recording of Redemption Song is from Montana 1995.
"Saying No" is frequently referred to as an improv but really it is mostly Eddie singing the words to a Fugazi song called "Suggestion" while the band kinda rocks out. He did this "Suggestion" improv at lots of shows back then but at the 3/2/92 show in Den Haag, Holland Eddie freestyles more with the lyrics and says something afterwards to the effect of "lets call that Saying No in Den Haag." the "Saying No" title was frequently listed on MANY bootlegs.

Redemption Song is one of my favorite Pearl Jam covers.
