to be perfectly honest, the shows are only in Florida and SC...doesn't cover much of the south.. but hey, I'm travelling from another continent for them so they could make the effort!

im tired of this shit. like its the people who petitioned for 5 plus years fault? im sure all those who petitioned who live in those markets bought tickets. so shut the fuck up.
i live in the south. but for the same reason i aint flying to nyc to see a show is the same reason im not flying to fla or sc to see a show.
and lets be honest, that long ass petition over at synergy is like 30 people with 1000 posts each.
Florida does not even really count as the South. I think the only reason they go there is because Mike is originally from Florida.
well at least you got that part right. i'm sick of hearing so. fla being referred to as "the south." which it is clearly not.

well..I look at the map and it's in the South of the country...you can't get further south on that side without leaving it. It's not the whole south but it's still in the south.

They have a diminishing fan base on a daily basis. Not just in the South.
see...that's why they need to just stick with Europe

the phrase "The South" has more to do with the mentality of people rather than geographical location. For some reason the cut off line of "The South" seems to be a few miles below the Northern Florida border.

I understand the that the southern half of Florida is not considered the south in political sense. I do think the Florida shows will sell relatively well but is it in Pearl Jam's best financial interest to play 1-2 shows that are at least a couple days drive away from cities they wouldn't lose money from playing? I would be curious if they just break even for the two Florida concerts. Since they're doing the Bonnaroo gig I'm grateful they added a few regional dates as well before heading to their Northeastern strongholds. I am surprised they're visiting Columbia though; I would have bet Atlanta or NC.

Well you're from England so it doesn't bother me that you would call it the south, since geographically it is as southern as you can get in the continental US. but like cono said, "the South" refers to a specific group/culture/way of life, which is NOT what Florida is about. There are parts, especially Northern Fla near the panhandle that are very much "the south," but most of the state is not. It's just frustrating, between N&D and posts here about the south, Florida always getting shat on like we're Alabama or something. When really So Fla is a cultural epicenter where you have an amazingly diverse population of people from the whole world. Sorry, thats been building up for awhile.

would it be fair to say that anything north of orlando is "the south"? thats about half the geograhical area, but i assume much much less than 1/2 of the population.
