There was a lot of talk on here after Tuesday about the show being 'epic'. A lot who thought so and many who disagreed.

For me, MSG1 was the most intense high I've ever been on, with energy and joy like I've never known. It was an 'epic' night in my life for sure. And MSG2, great as it was, was a slight let down. The peaks were the same, but for MSG1 the whole show was a sustained peak!! :heartbeat:

No doubt personal experience of the show plays a huge role in what's 'epic.' I get that. It's not totally objective. Many will disagree with me about MSG1.

But are there some shows that virtually everyone agrees were 'epic'? Give me a short list so I can check out some boots!

For me the most epic show is Philly - 10.03.2005. Maybe it was because I was there but I don't think anything can top that setlist. The whole show felt like a gift to the fans. I was also at the Randall's Island shows in '96 and the one where it poured the entire time was pretty sick too but that might have been because I was hammered and in the pit the whole time.

philly 05 is a great one to check out. So is Uniondale 03 (my personal favorite) and atlanta 94. Last year issac turner ran a 'march madness' style tournament for the best pearl jam show ever, so much of that thread is full of great suggestions

there are just obviously some really great shows that people have a consensus were great shows. everybody likes to cherry-pick favorites (usually ones they've been to) but through the band's career there are some clearly great shows. There's the Unplugged '92, Atlanta '94, Red Rocks '95, Solider Field '95, Randall's Island '96, MSG2 '98, MSG1 '03 amongst some others. But most agree that these are usually among the best shows of the band's career.

For me last nights show (MSG II) was great, but not EPIC. I have seen two Epic shows in my time, Randalls Island September 29th, 1996 and Seattle Key Arena November 6th 2000.

I saw Pearl Jam in 1998 at the Garden, September 10th 1998. The sound quality that night was awesome, and the crowd was really into it. They screwed a couple songs up (All those Yesterdays), but they screwed up as many songs just as bad last night.

I would venture to say any show between 1993-1996 beats any show this tour. DC is the only show I have heard (b/c I was there) and the passion just isnt the same. the shows are fun to be at, and the setlists look good on paper, but its nothing like those shows.

and this is not a bias based on shows I attended. I didnt see PJ live until Soldier Field 7/11/95. I discount any opinion that a show someone attended was "the best show EVER!" or a show like 4/3/94 is the best ever because there is a great recording in wide circulation. i think a comparison like this that is so broad can only be based on the band's performance.

I was just listening to some of that 10/3/05 show in Philly. I forgot that Ed says right before DTE "This song's called drop the leash!" and then laughs when the song starts. What a jerk.

Also pretty crazy that they did 9 covers

the acoustic set was nice, but the actual normal show that followed was meh at best...it wasn't even the best Boston show of that tour, the first night blew the doors off of Boston III

Boston Orpheum 94 would qualify as EPIC IMO

I saw MSG I and had a great, great time but I could not put it in the category of "epic" shows.

Of the shows I have seen, the "epic" performances would be Seattle II 2000, State College 2003 and San Diego 2006.

I was in the front row at a show in MSG in 1998 that was epic...first time they had played breath since 1994, a show I was also at in Boston.

the 98 show was the famous sign campaign.

I was at Randall's island in '96 and I think the '98 show at MSG was better.

Boston III is also up there; there was nothing like seeing PJ play during the daytime.
