usually they play covers of songs that have influenced them (or influenced ed mainly). the crown of thorns cover is an obvious deviation, but it's one of the more important songs from stone and jeff's past (plus they don't play it ever, save for a few times).

The reason I suggested Soundgarden is because Matt was in the band! It's kind of like how Velvet Revolver covered STP and GnR or how Audioslave covered Soundgarden and RatM.
I also wouldn't mind hearing Ed singing in a lower pitch because no one can hit those Cornell high notes anymore (not even the man himself).

The one Soundgarden song rumored to have been rehearsed, possibly even soundchecked, was "Room a Thousand Years Wide".

i seriously don't see pj doing an sg cover and pulling it off. not that sg was superior or anything like that, it's just that i wouldn't see the point.
velvet revolver had to do the covers of their old bands because no one would come see them if they didn't. that being said, i did have a fun time when a saw them.

Yeah, I remember an interview with Matt shortly after he joined and he said they had rehearsed it. Didn't know they actually soundchecked it, tho. Since it was the best one he wrote with them, and it's a top 3 SG tune for me, I had absolutely no problem with it.

But they were superior, and most of their songs a difficult for any band to cover.
We covered Fell On Black Days in the last band I was in, and people loved it. I think it would be a great song for Pearl Jam to do. I can here Ed singing it now...

i know soundgarden songs are more difficult to play than pj's, i just didn't want to get into a "which band is better" debate. that was what i was going for with that comment.
my main point is that pj doing an sg cover would be unnecessary. maybe a tag or a few teases, but i don't see why it would go beyond that, even with matt on the band

I always thought "Room a Thousand Years Wide" sounded like a Pj song to be honest..but yeah that one or the brilliant 'fell on black days' would be good...
it'll never ever happen though..

WAIT Outshined was used as a tag once ine 1993 I think. I'm not certain of the year but I am 100% certain this was done. It was either a tag at the end of the song or they just played like the 1st verse. I remember eddie introducing it as "this is off the new soundgarden record" or something.
