I guess it depends on what your definition of a song is. I personally wouldn't consider it a song, but its just very different and very very cool, mostly because I don't think many other singers could pull it off as well as Ed does, but was really blown away by how well he pulled it off this year.

For me hearing Arc on Monday was like living out a total fantasy of what Ed's voice could be. It was amazing. It felt like I was floating in an ocean and all those layers of his voice were the waves. It was unbelieveably cool and for me, I don't think any other voice could have given that feeling.
It's a tribute to those killed Roskilde, right? I don't get why that means they had to cut it from the boots. Why would it be disrespectful to have it on the boots?
Anyway, since I saw the Ed show on Monday I've been wishing I had something more than the few seconds on Riot Act to listen to...

i think ed was planning on only playing it 9 times for the victims so he didnt want them on the boots

I haven't seen it live, but my opinion is not worth that much. And I can appreciate being overwhelmed when seeing this live. But hearing it on an aud bootleg was not that special.
Anyone else see Tim Robbins there last night? Unfortunately, I saw him just after I saw a girl taken away in an ambulance after having what looked like a pretty intense seizure. Hopefully she's ok.
Amazing show last night though - anyone have the full setlist? Great story on Ledbetter and the NY Times review of the Tuesday show @ United Palace. The Turning Japanese reference was hilarious.

I was at the 1st 3 shows when Ed did Arc in 2003 in the US. I really liked it, however, loop pedals and similar-sounding gear are a dime-a-dozen now. Loads of bands/musicians use them. There's one by Digidesign that's really, really good. It's just different because Ed's doing something that's different for him, I think. I always thought Ed was tryin' to be Nusrat during Arc anyway.

I went to the Milwaukee show last night and Arc was an absolute highlight. having heard it once at a PJ show in an arena, where you couldnt hear the first few progressions (loops) over the crowd, this was perfect. The crowd shut up (which was a hard thing to do last night) and let Ed do his thing. Was amazing.
I was at the show with a very accomplished musician and his mind was blown by the song as well. He could have ended the show there, but came back for a tottally blown off the top "hard sun"... we both had the same thought... if a full blown 3 hour Pearl Jam show started right now, I think it would tottally fit and be perfect. Too bad Ed cant open for himself on a tour!

Heres a question for everyone calling it "ARC"
Is it really "ARC"
Or is it more "The Wolf" and the middle bit of "Hard Sun" I would say this is a vocal song, done in the same setting as Arc, but, I would think considering it is the Into the Wild tour, and The Wolf, and Hard Sun both feature the vocal over lapping... that this is not "ARC"
Has it been officially being called "ARC" or is it just all the fans calling it "ARC"?
either way it was awesome... I think id end the night with it... after Hard Sun... just leave it go and go see how long us idiot humans stand there listening after Eds already on the bus and out of town lol

i think the resemblance to arc is enough to consider it is arc

The resemblance is enough for Ed to write it on his setlists.

Was at the very first performance of this in '03 and a few afterwards and i think it is a special song. I think he should play it every so often, lest we forget how lucky we are to be here and remember those that were lost.

I still haven't seen it live so I hope they or he will keep doing it. For me it's also connected to what happened, and the general state of the world when it was released. It's the essence of the album, in fact, together with LBC, afaic.
groetjes, Mirella

Well if Eds writting it down as Arc, then its def ARC... in which the middle of Hard Sun always did resemble Arc... and the Wolf is the same vocal over looping...
of course, its also better to write "Arc" on the setlist... instead of
"vocal looping song from middle of Hard Sun"
