Anyone download and listen to this yet? I'm not very impressed with the mix. I can barely even hear Mike and Stone.

I actually was gonna say how much I love the mix. but I do get what you are saying.

Anyone notice a tad bit of an echo on Eddies mic?

Yeah, there's plenty of echo, and Mike is pretty muted at times (and sometimes Stone). I'm sure the mixing will get better with each boot; it'll also be interesting to see if the CD's sound better.

I doubt they'll make a different mix for CD as opposed to the downloads.

I haven't heard it yet, but the bootlegs of the first one or two shows of a tour invariably sound crappier than the rest of the tour. I have no idea why but it always seems to be that way, at least it certainly was in 2005-2006.

the cd's are not silvers. They are cd-r's. basically the FLAC burned to cd.

I was afraid of this, so there is really no point in buying the cd except for artwork. Will there be artwork?

I'm nervous that the powers-that-be know they need to burn in DAO mode with 0 second gaps between the tracks. I'm not taking this for granted.

The first couple of shows always sound off, but they get it right. The echo is something ed is doign with the mic. He did a echo during present tense too.

Maybe the packaging will be what you see on that Verizon site. Couple of CDRs inside & a nice Verizon logo on the front

Wow, so I had the opportunity to hear a couple of tracks from WPB and Tampa today...

Yeah, the mix is well weird. It was only on a car stereo, but basically all I could hear was bass, drums and vocals - Stone and Mike may as well have stayed home, I certainly couldn't hear 'em...sounded like some great performances but I wasn't all that into it. I'm a guitar guy...Pearl Jam with no guitar ain't no PJ I wanna hear.

First boot I've bought is Columbia, hope they've got the mixes sorted out by then. They usually seem to start getting it right by the third or fourth show (I think the Gorge & Vancouver in '05 both sounded pretty woeful from memory).

I don't know how this sort of thing isn't picked up when Brett's mixing them (if it's still Brett...). I mean, he gets it right eventually so it's not as if he doesn't know what he's doing - it just seems he mixes the guitars way low for the first few shows. I mean, if any old punter can pick it up from a brief listen surely he can hear it too?...

I don't think Brett's involved in any way.

So, he's gone now? Huh.

Seriously, I don't see the problem - they made it clear all along it would be CD-R's, if people didn't realise before then they weren't paying much attention.

Here's what I wrote in another thread:

spenno wrote:
Yeah, someone on the MP got an email from 10C that confirmed they're CD-R's made from recycled material that will be guaranteed not to degrade for a bazillion years:

The Cds are CD-Rs, but lifetime guaranteed and will be made using recycled material.

Best,
~10c

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, sounds pretty cool to me, I like that they've attempted to offset the wastage of printing physical CD's by using recycled material.

The argument that "it's not worth buying a $17 CD-R" doesn't really stand up, seeing as FLAC's are $15 - so, in effect, since you're basically also getting the FLAC's in the price of buying the CD, you're paying only $2 for that CD-R plus case and artwork. Seems like a steal to me.

The only crappy thing is the overseas postage but oh well, it's not worth bitching about too much, it could be worse - like no boots at all...

What makes you say that? He has been their sound man for years and he's not anymore? I find that hard to believe.

"clear all along it would be CD-R's" - ???? hardly, it took an email from a member to get them to admit it. This kinda stuff should be disclosed up front so that any confusion can be eliminated. I think this thread proves that they didn't "make it clear all along" as people still don't know what they'll be getting is a CD-R. Not everyone reads every post on Synergy or here.

Lifetime gauranteed CD-Rs huh? I can't wait to read the warranty that comes with my package.

This is so fucked up. I have ranted before but I don't fucking understand how over the course of 8 years the price for the bootleg product remains almost exactly the same yet the quality of the merchandise plummets.

2000 - Silver bottomed discs. Special unique packaging for each show including a reproduction of the original handwritten setlist for the show on the inside cover.

2003 - Silver bottemed discs in flimsly, lower quality cardboard packing. Generic artwork on said inferior package with shitty stickers. Spine stickers eventually peel off over time and have to be thrown away.

2008 - CD-Rs. And God only knows how cheap the package and artwork will be.

As was stated above, not everyone reads every post on Synergy or here.

Has this been absolutely confirmed? Who got above-said "email"?

Anyway, it's not too hard to believe. Kinda goes right along with 10C's methodology. Glad I didn't buy any yet...

Agreed. It was not stated that way and ive got 3 cds on order. Im fine with how they were in 2003, i would gladly welcome that. Ive now listened to WPB...it seems to sound better than 2006 mixing, which I did not like. However the comments about the guitar mix is right on. Stone is barley audible and you really hear how quiet he is when it is just his guitar.

The mix/sound of the 2000/03 boots was incredible. Why cant we just go back to that?
