well, if you're ever listening to some music and decide you need to take a 70 minute piss break, just throw this on

Love the idea (it'd be great do an updated version with the '06 drum solo), but aren't the above just the exact same performance (the former being obviously just a rough mix of the latter)?...

ah, the evolution of songs. Its great

This is what actually got me into listening to as many PJ boots as i could a few years back.

I would go back and look at the evolution of certain pearl jam songs.

Clearly, some evolve more than others.

Other examples for a good/decent compilation would be:

Porch (the jams are different at most every show, but there are bigger differences every tour it would seem, or every few years)
RVM (the same as porch, the jams change almost every tour)
Black (intense and passionate at first, but shorter with no huge mccready solo, going to the late 90s and 2000 with the long outro and more of a solemn emotion, and so forth)
Jeremy (hasnt really changed much, around the mid 90s the outtro got longer with eddie chanting the "hee, hee , hee" , the stellar reworked version of 1995 course, and now recently with the song regaining some intensity it seems was lost a few years back, with that outro having eddie belt out some yells at the very end)

thats all i got

you're exactly right. Worth adding them both just for the documentation though I thought.

I only once did a pissbreak during a PJ concert and I did it during Even Flow. True story.

Both of these posts are fucking hillarious. And I agree 100% percent with the sentiments. Evenflow finally won me over in 2006 with those kickass drum solos but lost me again in 2008.

I totally respect the detailed analysis of your compilation in trying to track the evolution of the song. However, I am not sure I could personnally listen to that CD. Maybe one track a day or something like that.

And why don't you throw in a 2006 version if you are really trying to look at the musical growth of the song?

it's just the first 10 years.

And though I created the CD, I never have actually listened to it straight through. It's the same song 15 times in a row. But I know where to go to find my Evenflows if I need them.

There's a version they were doing in '95 with jack irons where the intro to the song was the guitar part into the chorus..that rocked...

I don't own Live on Two Legs, so can anybody explain how this is possible?

It's edited from two different performances of Even Flow.

LOL, Its was probably the only way they could get a full version of the song without any lyric flubs!

Even the greatest bands have been guilty of a little splice job now and then. On the album "A Live One" by Phish, the final song, the Squirming Coil comes from 2 different sources. The majority of the track was recorded on 10/9/94 in Pittsburgh but the piano solo at the end was taken from the 10/23/94 show in Florida. I was crushed when I found that out. It seems so deceptive.
