I like 92-95 pretty good. And he seemed to sound pretty good in 06. Haven't heard any boots from 08 yet, but he sounded ok at the shows I was at.

Ding, ding, ding!

We have a winner, folks.

Honestly, anyone who states Ed's voice is better than ever is deluding themselves. Take a close listen to Ed in 1998 (or even 2000) and you can clearly hear the decline in his vocal power.

He's still a great singer but he's definitely past his absolute peak. 1998 was so great as he could actually sing rather than just shout but still could summon those big growls at a moments notice.

I think there's a slight drop-off in 2000, but it's not very big, and then he's been steadily worse year by year ever since.

definitely 1998.

eddie had vocal problems in '95, and I'm not sure what happened in 96.

98-02

in 03 it was hit and miss. even on the msg dvd, there are some moments when he sounds out of tune and struggling hard. in shows that happened after a few days rest, he almost sounded as good as ever.

after the 03 tour, he's really had to take it a lot easier.

1993 ... "blood" from 11/5/93 Indio is about as powerful as it gets.

agreed 100%.

I hope one day they decide to release the shows from that tour. I have a real bootleg from the Greenville, SC show I went to, but I'd love to have an official one.

Love Reign O'er Me from the VH1 Rock Honors was the greatest I've ever head Eddie Vedder sing in my life. That scream after Mike's solo was just out of this world.

I think the only other time that comes close was his broadcast performance of "Blood" (not the rehearsal) from Self Pollution Radio in 1995

Well, no matter when you link he soundes the best, if doesn't something to start taking care of his voice ( stopping smoking being the biggest thing) he's gonna end up like Daltry or Townsend sound now about 15-20 years early.

Official releases of the 1998 tour would make me cum in my pants.

It's already happening.

He hasn't taken care of his voice at all and now he's paying the price - it's only going to get much worse unless he cuts out the cigs as soon as possible.

I think the 03 tour really reconditioned Ed's voice. 2008 is the best, I have ever heard, but I didn't get into them til the 2000 tour.

I have even had friends, who are big PJ fans(just not quite as much as me), comment on him sounding better.

I have heard alotta older boots that are just bad to listen too, but that was with amateur mixing, and it always seemed it need to be smoothed out. There was some harshness there. It was always pretty damn spot on, I just haven't had the pleasure to really assess it fairly.

The vibe of the band seemed to be much more mellow from 2000-03. Now, it seems, they are embracing the more rockin side, so Ed is really pushing his voice on a more consistent basis, and it seems, at least to my ears, that it's really strengthened his voice.
