Thanks for the replies in my 1992 and 1991 threads. A lot of the shows you guys mentioned look really awesome after reading the reviews on five horizons. I look forward to collecting the boots.

Now on to 1993. What are the best shows from this year?

12/08/93 - Seattle Center Arena: Seattle, WA [100m]
set: Release, Even Flow, Dissident, Sick o' Pussies/Go, Animal, Jeremy, Deep/Why Go, Daughter/(Do You Feel Lucky)/(W.M.A.), Glorified G, Alive, Once, Footsteps, Porch
enc 1: Last Exit, Tremor Christ, Blood, State of Love and Trust, I've Got a Feeling, Rearviewmirror
enc 2: Rockin' in the Free World
notes: Ed thanks Joey Ramone for "letting me use his mic stand." The "Mamasan trilogy" of 'Alive, 'Once' and 'Footsteps' resurfaces, with Ed likening it to their "Nutcracker." It is likely that PJ chose to play 'I've Got a Feeling' because of the date, with Ed noting, "Today's an important day. Go home and look it up" (anniverary of John Lennon's death).

I'm partial to 11-24-93, I think it's in Kansas. Really high energy show.

11/16/93 New Orleans is a great show. There's even a DVD of it floating around.

The 5/13/93 Secret Show at Slim's in SF is also a great recording. Lots of Vs. songs debuted for the first time(including Better Man).

11/16/93 New Orleans is really intense. An amazing Porch, first Last Exit. Definatley a fabulous show in PJ's history.

Like he said.

05/13/93 - Slim's Cafe: San Francisco, CA [110m]
attendance: 900
soundcheck: Daughter instrumental, Why Go, Blood instrumental, Rats and Release guitar warm-ups, Animal instrumental, Animal, Dissident
set: Animal, Go, Even Flow, Blood, Daughter, W.M.A., Dissident, Why Go, Alive, Hard to Imagine, Rearviewmirror, Better Man, Dirty Frank/Rats, Baba O'Riley, Once, Jeremy, (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun)/Porch/(Tearing), Release, Alone, (Dirty Deeds)/Whipping, Leash, Sonic Reducer
notes: This was a secret show was a benefit to assist in legal support for a member of the Surfrider Foundation. PJ is billed as the "David J. Gunn Band" and most of Vs. (plus 'Better Man' and 'Whipping') premier as they have just completed recording the new album. The band even asks for requests at this show. Ed jokes around: "We're accepting any donations of acid that you may have. Just put it in a little envelope with your name on it ... and if we write a great song while we're on it, we'll put your name in the credits." A guitar riff from Van Halen's 'Eruption' is played between 'Why Go' and 'Alive.' 'Alive' is dedicated to Ed's uncle, Freddy Vedder. The transition from 'Dirty Frank' to 'Rats' is very cool sounding.A bit of AC/DC's 'Dirty Deeds' is played.

11/05/93 - Empire Polo Fields: Indio, CA [100m]
attendance: 25,000
support act: Weapon of Choice, Eleven and American Music Club
soundcheck: Wash, Alone, Yellow Ledbetter
set: Release, Go, Animal, Why Go, Deep, Jeremy, Glorified G, Daughter/Improv (It's Time to Realign Your Body with Your Mind), Alive, Rearviewmirror, Improv (Thank You), Blood, Rats, Once, Porch/(Tearing), Fuck Me in the Brain
enc: Sonic Reducer, Even Flow, Indifference, Baba O'Riley
notes: This show, originally planned for the LA area, was problematic with respect to parking and cold temperatures. The unruly crowd was moshing in line during the soundcheck and to PA music! Before PJ started, a roadie sang a hysterical rendition of 'Copa Cabana.' The audience is launching shoes at the stage even before and during the opening acts. In fact, during Eleven's set, a shoe hits Jack Iron's bass drum, he stops the song and says that if he finds out who threw it he would make him pay for the damages (quite pissed). Finally, PJ hits the stage, with the audience behaving outrageously. Prior to 'Deep,' Ed remarks, "Kill your local rapist, but torture him first, then serve him to your enemy for dinner." Later: "The first guy I met today gave me this book and asked if I wanted to know the secret for living forever." Tossing it into the crowd, he says, "Why the fuck would I want to live forever?" During 'Porch,' Ed invites the audience to spit at him. The agitated crowd, continuing to throw stuff onto the stage, leads Ed to comment that "... me and Jeff are going to the front gate and when you exit, we are going to beat the shit out of every barefoot person here" and "... throw a gun so I can shoot you." The band eventually plays from behind their amps so they won't be hit by the flying shoes. This audience was awful. The recording of 'Blood' from this show is released on the 'Daughter' single. 'Fuck Me in the Brain' was released later on the third fan club single (as 'Ramblings'). The guys deserve a medal for playing this long and this well despite the rowdy crowd.

I think the best show from the Fall '93 USA tour is 11-17-93. You can download the torrent here:

A show I never see mentioned which is one of my favorites is 12/1/93. This Vegas show is just unbelievably full of energy. The bootleg(s) leave a little to be desired, but they still rock. This short but *sick* version of Porch just floors me.

1993 Fall Shows rule the roost, particularly November...

Key in on
11.05.93
11.12.93
11.16.93
11.17.93

Another really good sounding show (although it has its blips and chops)
10.30.93

I not big fan of anything pre-94, but this show rocks! The intro to why go is amazing. Thanks for the torrent/suggestions.

Ed's such a lush during this period!
