Were you people there for this or is there a decent recording? Seen it mentioned a couple of times now. Can someone provide an mp3 for a quick listen?

I was there to see it live...it was incredible.

There is a decent recording out there somewhere....

I was pretty sure PJ had never been as far as Russia. Then I realised that you mean St Petersburg in Florida. Not quite so well known to the outside world!

So I was all about the 92 Honolulu version of "Porch" until RM user washing machine pointed out to me how great the version from Zurich 92 is. Man, the beginning of that song in those early days was sick.

I still like RVM live better, but these early shows you sent me are special.

This thread isn't about what song is better live, it's just about Porch live.

True, though Porch is better.

Pete, have you heard the version from Zurich 92 that we are speaking of?

I have, but not in many years. That show is now on my list to burn and bring into my car.

Early Days- In general they were loud, amazingly brutal and intense in energy, Mike wailing on the Hendrix riff, and that awesome riff when the jam starts to pick up tempo (sounds real good on unplugged also)

Jack Irons era- Jack added a more organic feel to the jam, and while not as intense the jams were interesting and unique, and Jack's buildup to the final chorus/outro was neat

Latter days- Honestly i havent heard much Porches from the 98 tour, but in 2000 they started to sound a little bored with the jam in the middle, like they tried to continue the organic melodic jamming of the Jack era but it just wouldn't compute....BUT THEN from the 2003 tour on those jams have been full of some good intensity and soloing that really have redeemed the song for, as you can tell by the Letterman Webcast and Easy Street versions compared to most 2000 versions.

All in all....i still can't pick a goddamn favorite

Salt Lake City '95 and Lubbock '00 are my favorite "Porch"es. I don't agree that the jam section lagged in 2000; I think it was at an all-time high. Just listen to the interplay between Mike and Stone in the Lubbock version.

The unplugged version... where Eddie writes "PRO-CHOICE" up his arm, and then during the solo, starts spinning around in his stool and then goes flying off :haha:

Or the Pinkpop '92 version... the whole band is fucking insane that show, Mike is playing his solo and trips and keeps playing, then Stone leans over him and Mike plays Stone's guitar from the floor, and then Eddie dives off the TV crane... intense. Someone told me Eddie was stoned that show...? Based on the outcome, I'd say he's more likely to have been during the unplugged set? I don't know.

But both kicked absolute ass.

i did not like that version of porch in the first post... maybe its just the crap audio, or jeff had the chorus pedal turned up WAYY too much for his bass

For the longest time i would have said Atlanta 94, but the middle part drones on a bit too long for me now. Still one of the finer Porches i've heard though

Drop in the Park's version is real bad ass and full of energy, thats high on my list

the versions on the Letterman webcast in 2006 and Live at Easy Street are also phenomenal

I think there's too many versions for me to choose from, i like Porch from all era's of Pearl Jam's career because the jam in the middle is so different:

Absolutely agree except that for there is another division in "Early Days": 92 era much energy and 94 energy+magical moments. For me the best Porch needs Eddie Vedder singing at the end of jam

So, I have several favorite Porch (many of them are due to lack of good sound recording of many live concerts in the non-bootlegs era)
92: Unplugged
94: Atlanta (absolutely perfect sound and high performance of full band (it seems like Dave Abbru had 4 hands and 3 feet)
95: Melbourne (magic Eddie)
03: Uniondale (Different kind of jam, something in the air)

Stunned no one mentioned that Australian one from 98 that was broadcast on JJJ radio. I can't remember which city but it was the final song of the night and ended with ed saying "im gonna go get hammered, goodnight"

Melbourne

That was the first one that entered my mind too.

The correct answer is Columbia SC, 2008. Wow, just fucking wow! Below is a YouTube, but the audio is shit! The official boot I have is damn chill inducing. Check out the guitar interaction from Mike & Stone around the 2:50 mark.

Solid version in the tour/leg/year of Eddie's worst vocal performances. the 2008 shows should be buried and pissed on...

It's strange how good Hartford is when you consider how bad the rest of the tour is. It's like they flipped a switch for that show, then flipped it back off for the next two.

Camden II and Columbia are pretty good too. The rest of the shows are decent at best.
