Nearly every album has a song that is used to open up a good chunk of shows...which one would you choose from Backspacer? I think Unthought Known would be a pretty sweep opener like LBC was for the Riot Act tour.

Can't Keep was a better opener than LBS was.

But yeah, I'd have to say UK from Backspacer.

Gonna See My Friend would be a pretty great rocking opener.

I'm a bit afraid to hear what Ed's voice will sound like on this one live though.

I don't know if ATW is a good opener. I see that more as a song that would be perfect after they get the early rockers done. Unthought Known would probably work well there.

Funny i was thinking about this when i was listening to Backspacer on my way into work this morning.

At first glance, there is nothing as obvious as say Severed Hand, Can't Keep or Of The Girl to open shows.

My only thought was Gonna See My Friend if they wanted to tear right into it. But UK is a good suggestion as well. The band seems to like saving Got Some for late in the first set.

unthought known is a great choice. Amongst the waves builds too quickly. That song requires a warmed up crowd already

The obvious one for me is Just Breathe. I think that'd be a great song to start with before diving into something really heavy.

Agree. I see UU as a LBC-style opener but waaaaay better. Amongst the Waves should become the new Given to Fly/Alive. Yes, I will stand by that til the bitter end. It's a peak.

UU would be good as an openr, but i can't decide whether it would be better placed later in the set, or even in the encore somewhere. maybe sandwiched between present tense and porch or something..

Is UU just U played twice? That would be horrible.

Is there an ongoing joke with the UU?

I'm going GSMF as a cool opener, but UK seems to fit the bill as a slow builder that they seem to like to use as an opener.

I was waiting for this thread to show up.

For the mellow build up style opener it's definitely Unthought Known.

For the punch you in the face style opener I'd go with Gonna See My Friend.

Just Breathe would make a great pre-set song.

I'd have to agree with everyone who has said Unthought Known or Gonna See My Friend depending on what note they want to start off a given show.
