..."let the show begin..." <yes, slight revision, but I love it when Ed did it on previous LBC openers>
I think the opener depends on the show that follows. I find openers like Long Road lead to more experimental line ups, whereas something fast, Go, etc, leads to more crowd-pleaser high-energy sets.

Have they ever opened with "Hail Hail"?
Definitely a few times in '98--maybe Atlanta? It works.
Cool. I'll have to see if I can dig up some boots. I never really thought of it as an opener, but yesterday it just dawned on me. I can imagine it would work nicely if they decided to open up with a bunch of heavier tunes. Something like: Hail Hail, Last Exit, DTE, SOLAT.
This is the easiest thing for me to answer: Oceans, Oceans, Oceans. It's my white whale, and I'm flying to Deluna mainly because I think it's my best chance to finally see it. It's the only song from Ten I've never seen. In fact, aside from shit like Bugs and Stupid Mop, it's the only song from the first five albums I haven't seen.

Yeah, Hail Hail opened Atlanta '98. I was there for that one. Opening slayed... Hail Hail > Animal > Given to Fly > Do the Evolution
What I would love to see again is a combination of slow songs at the beginning. They did it in 03 a few times if I remember correctly. (Sendai ) Nowadays it´s always 4-5 fast songs or 1 slow + a bunch of fast songs.

This would be cool:
Release > Of the girl > In Hiding
I always loved how the Katowice '00 show opened.. Release > Of The Girl > Sleight of Hand > Thin Air
It's not something i'd love to see every night (unless it was that kind of tour), but it'd be cool to see something weird like that thrown in the bunch

DC 2003 they opened with: Can't Keep, Elderly Woman, Off He Goes.
The fans hadn't all gotten there b/c of traffic, so they started things mellow, then got into some rockers.

The main set to the first Key Arena show in 2002 was:
Quote:
Elderly Woman, Black, Thumbing My Way, Nothing As It Seems, Given to Fly, Save You, Hail Hail, Ghost, Corduroy, Grievance, Green Disease, I Am Mine, Love Boat Captain, You Are, 1/2 Full, Even Flow, Wishlist, Blood
Things like that Pearl Jam, do things like that.
Sendai 2003's opening of Of the Girl > Immortality > Insignificance always struck me as really cool.

Did anyone see the show where Alive opened? Its almost unfathomable when you think about how great it is late in the sets.
Dallas 03?
Yep, and Newcastle '06.
It works.
From memory when I listened to the Newcastle boot I thought the only thing that let Alive down as the opener was the band not being warmed up enough for it. McCready was pretty stiff in the solo. Still it sure had the crowd going nuts and really set the tone for a great show.
This is a very good suggestion! I’m sure that it would work as an opener. Faithful > Go
When I heard Faithful in Berlin 2 weeks ago I was remembered how much I adore those midtempo numbers from vitalogy to riot act. Perfect song for a beer at a concert too!

I get slow openers all the time, which I guess makes sense bc I'm sure they make up the vast majority, percentage-wise. I'd love to get more fast openers though. I got "Go" once, and it just rocketsauced everyone into a frenzy.
But, as long as I don't get Elderly Woman, I'm ok.
