No point flying out midweek- any tips whether Philly is the kind of place I can spend a full week? Or should I fly into DC instead, and take the bus around to Philly on the day of the 1st show and back to DC after the 3rd for the return flight?
Whatever the suggestion is, I'll most likely end up exercising my extreme cheapskatedness and just hang around with anyone who might be willing to put up an Aussie scammer at their place/hotel/motel/hostel/car

I'm biased since I have lived here my entire life. I think you could get a pretty good week in Philly. There's a ton of stuff to see and I could throw together a pretty cheap itinerary for you to spend your time. Especially considering you will be spending 3 of those nights at the shows.
