The Fox is a nice theater I hear, never been there despite living in the city.
Its in an "interesting" part of town though.
"interesting" meaning, i should not get a hotel anywhere near there and walk to the venue "interesting" ? LOL
Well if you stay on the main strip you are OK but downtown has very rough areas right near it. We aren't the most violent city in the nation for nothing and you will be deep in the urban core. There are so bad areas around that but on the South grand right around the it should be OK. The symphony hall and SLU college is right there so there should be decent police presence.
Id take a cab though.
Don't want to scare you but we are some murdering mofo's here in St. Louis.
P.S. whatever you do don't go north of Martin Luther King Dr which is up Grand from the theater. It gets shooty.

Plenty of parking within walking distance of venue.
The area isn't horrible, but don't fuck around either. Leave people be and tell the panhandlers firmly NO immediately and you'll be fine. Don't make eye contact with any of the questionable fucks and you'll be alright.
If I were from out of town, I'd stay downtown near Busch Stadium, take a cab to the Fox, Rock it, Cab back downtown and then party at the bars downtown/the 4th of July Festival on the Riverfront.
You all will be fine..... Old ladies go to see Evita at this theater and walk back to their cars at night no problem.
Check out "The Best Steakhouse" right across the street. Great food if you don't mind heartburn.
