Mansfield 2008 :)

The crowd is just INSANE, there is a standing ovation that lasts a good minute just after the first chorus, before the ooooooh (if you now what I mean).
So good :)

I was there. It was great but I still cringe when people call it the best version ever. My favorite version of Betterman is from 9/16/98, coincidentally at the same venue as the version you bring up.

I was there too :)

Ok, I get it might not be the best version ever, but I think the whole package (that is, including the crowd) make a pretty good version.
No, I haven't listened to every version ever played, sorry :P

I really like the Los Angeles 2000 version. Really good "Romanza" intro by Ed, and a nice quick "Save It For Later" on the end. Solid all around.

East Troy '03, with the Wild Thing tag.

But that's just me.

Any Betterman performed late enough to include Wasted Reprise won't be the best.

Touring Band's take was pretty good, Seattle II. Actually any version from those final 2000 shows ripped, specifically Boise.

That whole show rocks.

You guys heard Buffalo 10/1/96 Betterman? Great early tag and Mike's guitar work on the end is very unique.

Detroit 2000 is a good one. I don't know if it's the best, but the band nails it, and it does have the "Save It For Later" tag, but it's shorter than a lot of other versions I've heard.

I also like:

DC '03. Extended jam and "Why Can't I Touch It" / "Save It For Later" tag.

Columbia '08. Short and sweet. Once the band kicks in, the song is faster and more raw than I've ever heard it. It changes the feeling of the song, but it's good, I like it.
