Don't they usually play it without a guest vocalist?

I think the version from the third San Fran show in 2006 is pretty definitive.

The EV version on the DVD is pretty bad ass.

I haven't heard a version of this that I've liked.

With the exception of the SF version I mentioned above (which has Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth lending a hand on guitar), I agree. It's a pretty boring cover.

"Watchtower" is just one of those songs that should be retired from the general vocabulary of rock music. It decreases in power from one generation to next like a recordable cassette. Why a band of Pearl Jam's stature would choose to add such a hackneyed cover to their set at this point in their career is baffling.

It's pretty good...until you realize that Eddie can't handle playing the guitar on that song. Actually, don't mind me. I'm just bitter that the version from Eddie's second Berkeley show in '08 with McCready playing guitar wasn't the one filmed for DVD/Blu-Ray.

yes, it's an overplayed cover. but i like the song, and i like pearl jam's take on it, even if it isn't mind blowing.
