...so, feeling a little conflicted about this. Festivals are horrible, but headliners of the BDO often also do their own shows in smaller venues so that could work out okay.

We have some very exciting news about Pearl Jam. They could be here for the Big Day Out!
At this stage it’s still a hot rumour, but how good would it be if it was true?
Triple M music reporter James Young, who runs the Cherry Bar in AC/DC Lane in Melbourne, broke the exciting rumour on Triple M Melbourne’s The Hot Breakfast this morning. “The word is that the Big Day Out next year could [see] Pearl Jam in every [major capital] city in Australia. This would be a huge coup,” he said.

I dont mind the festival actually, ive always enjoyed them. It might be a nice change for us aussies to see them in this light.
At the end of the day its just a rumour and i will be there if its true.
They'd do sideys in all cities I'd reckon. There's always time in the BDO schedule.
Would stroll in after work for the Adelaide BDO set (Friday arvo), see an Adelaide sidey if there was one, and catch a weekend interstate sidey if I could. Certainly wouldn't go to more than one BDO though.

Yup, same. I've had a pretty horrendous time whenever I've been.

What size venues could they possibly play as sideshows? Imagine if Thebby gets the nod!

I doubt very much they'll do an Adelaide sideshow, I can't recall any BDO sideshows here. Well, there was Elastica at the Tivoli in 1996. But none I can recall since then.
I just Googled last year's shows: Tool did sideshows at Sydney Entertainment Centre and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne. I'd expect something like that, though maybe Brisbane too.

Consider BDO as confirmed, I can't reveal sources, but it's on!

Some disappointing news in the world of the Big Day Out but there's a positive spin at the end.
We've been talking over the past couple of weeks that Pearl Jam were likely headliners for the Big Day Out. That now looks unlikely according to our Triple M music reporter Nui Te Koha.
"Pearl Jam have changed their mind and the BDO has thrown a lot of money at another act… and it looks like Radiohead, which is a fair replacement," he said on this morning's the Hot Breakfast.
Then there was a post yesterday by the BDO Official Facebook page that none of the 2012 Headliners begin with an 'R' or 'P'
Finally, Soundgarden ( ) was announced as a headliner this morning so that pretty much kills any chance of getting PJ as well.
Hopefully this means a full-scale PJ Arena tour (please not Stadiums again!) here later in 2012 (03, 06, 09, 12?)
