Let's not get carried away here. I'm comparing it to what we get once we click 'forum'.

I thought Mike's shirt was pretty badass. Even more badass knowing who 'Gleason' is now.

Quote:
Eddie Vedder stumbles onstage for a packed Pearl Jam performance

NICHOLAS FOURIEZOS

ATLANTA – Less talk, more rock, seemed to be the guiding principle during Pearl Jam's appearance Saturday at Music Midtown in Atlanta.

The much-anticipated show, which drew most of the 52,000-person crowd at Piedmont Park Saturday night, began with a bang. Guitar riffs cried out to the crescent moon like a wolf before its time.

Shouts, lingering in the air like smoke rings, paced a grizzled set list that took the audience through hit after hit.

But the show closed with a whimper, weighed down by an uneven performance by Eddie Vedder, the legendary front man.

Simply put, he wasn't himself. You could pull up a Youtube clip of his live performances and they would have been better.

It took three songs before he spoke to the crowd, which wasn't a bad thing, because once he did start speaking, it became apparent that he should be at home sleeping it off, rather than trying to headline a two-day music festival.

It became clear after a bizarre rant about voting laws in Georgia. His words were slurred and uncertain. He dropped out of songs completely, seemingly unable to keep up the pace in songs that he has performed year after year.

Vedder was all over the place. In a stunning performance of "Better Man," made brilliant by his band's veteran ability, his voice dropped out of the refrain, until the crowd was left singing alone.

"That's really crazy," he said, referring to the enormous crowd singing the song all at once. It was the same observation Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters had made the night before.

The next sermon was on love: "With life comes weather. With weather comes waves. And with love, there will be waves."

Vedder's band certainly felt the waves. They were the ones who had to cover for him as he stumbled across stage, continually dropping out of songs. Even when he did sing, his voice was weak. The tempo was noticeably slower, as an effort to hide his inability to keep up.

He looked lost on his own stage.

The classics kept coming and the crowd, which so desperately wanted a good show, were willing to work with it. They sung along to "Jeremy," while Vedder looked like he was about to fall asleep at the mic.

Can we please make drinking and singing illegal?

Not drinking and singing, but getting to the point that you can't even do your job — perform.

It wasn't like this was some small-time show, beneath Vedder's stature. This was a music festival that had pulled out all the stops to bring a sold-out crowd to see him.

His response?

A mewling, half-hearted and distant performance. It was a disappointing end to an otherwise successful two-day tribute to music.

Probably somewhat exaggerated, but still, guy has something of a point.

In the comments section of his article:

Dear Mr. Fouriezos,
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, fortunately though, most idiots don't have such a large forum to voice them.
You shouldn't be ashamed of you're ignorance, I'm ignorant about lot's of things, like medical science, accounting or space.... That's why I'm not a Dr, accountant or work for NASA.
Mr. Fouriezos, the world needs ditch diggers too.... Maybe you'd be better at that..... But I doubt it.

He, Dave, did indeed stop in '07. And you know I agree with the rest of your statement. EdVed doesn't seem to care much and it shows in just about everything he sings. Hunger Strike at PJ20 next to Cornell is unlistenable because of him.

Ed was drunk. It was obvious from his little speeches in between songs, but the show was solid. Ed's only 1 of 6 guys.
