But you know, I had an encore of Black - Jeremy - Alive - YL at Arras and thought it was amazing. The energy of the crowd was incredible. And I must say I had the impression the band looked more into it than when I saw them last in 2009 & 2010 as well. I stood next to a New Yorker who saw his first show at Randall's Island 96 and was now at show 40. It's pretty awesome having people like that totally rocking out to his 30th Alive, giving me a high five when the opening riff started, than someone going "oh, Jeremy, fuck, I hate this song, play Push Me Pull Me!".

Oh well, I'm still a bit in cloud cuckoo land having enjoyed the shows so much.

I get that, and at the end of the day, I'll take a tight version of Alive over a sloppy No Way any day of the week. It's just that one of the best things about live Pearl Jam historically has been the unpredictability of the sets, and these days as soon as they come back for the encore you pretty much know what you're getting.

I understand you, completely, but still:

Amsterdam 1 encore II : Green Disease, Smile, Love Reign O'er Me ...
Amsterdam 2 ... well
Quote:
first encore: Release, Hail Hail, Alone, Footsteps, Rearviewmirror
second encore: Crown of Thorns, Sonic Reducer, Alive, Baba O’Riley, Yellow Ledbetter

Arras encore : Given to Fly, Breath, Just Breath, Black, Jeremy, Alive, Yellow Ledbetter

Maybe I've been just lucky with the shows I went to, but I'd settle for this every single time.

If we put you in a room of 15 thousand people singing along to these six songs at the end of a great concert, are you telling me you will leave disappointed?

Just a little bit.

 I have done 3 shows on this tour (Amsterdam 1 & 2, Berlin 1), they seem more tight and having more fun than on previous Euro tour. They are travelling with their family, Mike's mom was on stage yesterday for a Happy Birthday chant, Matt's son (I guess) took Mike's guitar for RITFW. He seemed stressed, it was great to see Jeff and Stone joining him and inviting him to have fun.
The crowd singing the DTE riff was priceless: Ed made Stone repeat the riff (the "Admire me..." one) 3 or 4 times, then the band screwed up the change to the chorus.

Next stop: Stockholm (show #1000 apparently) and Oslo!

Yeah, not a lot, but a little.

Thing is: we're both right!
- Was it a blast to be there? Yes, I'm sure it was.
- Are those encores less interesting than they could be? Absolutely.

Hey, I'm definitely as guilty of this as anyone. I breathlessly proclaimed the 2009 Pearl Jam show I saw to be the best I'd ever seen by them straight after the show, which is crap of course - in hindsight, it was easily the worst (though this is all relative, since an average Pearl Jam show is still a grand ol' time).

with 3 shows to go on this euro tour, i know everyone is buzzing the most about amsterdam 2. granted, aside from youtube clips of alone (loved it) and bugs (not so much) as well as what was shown on the isle of wight special on vh1, i haven't heard anything from any of the shows, but this first night in berlin setlist is easily my favorite. immortality, in my tree, hard to imagine, the end, leash, my favorite opener (long road) and closer (indifference), and both corduroy and rearviewmirror. just wow! sorry, brian.
