my brother sent me a selection of locally produced foods for Christmas this year, including apple butter, creamed honey (no idea what that is), dried apple slices, maple syrup, honey mustard, wine jelly (again, no idea) and hand made pretzels (pieces)...

what do you do with the apple butter, the wine jelly, or the creamed honey?

these things are much too sophisticated for me - but that's not the point - what's a preferred food gift for RMers?
what do you do with the stuff you won't eat? is re-gifting out of the questions?

I'd spread the apple butter on toast, but I've never heard of the other two. I seriously doubt it would be a bad idea to serve creamed honey or wine jelly with a cheese tray, though.

Each of those items sounds like a knee tune.

I would love a food gift. My family are like gangsters. We just trade cash. :(

The apple butter and honey would be good on pancakes or biscuits, and like Reid said I could see the wine jelly with cheese. Maybe you'll get another gift basket of stuff that pairs with this basket, yanno?

I had a great idea for a food gift, but I couldn't find any 4" or 6" cast iron frying pans to complete the package.

http://smells-like-home.com/2011/11/baked-fontina/

I've been told I can get cast iron pans in any size at one of the local gun shows, so everyone in my family is getting a pan and some cheese for christmas next year.

why are we looking down our noses at them?

I've received omaha steaks as christmas gifts in the past - other than a long standing hatred of all things Omaha, I had no problem with them, pal. *shrugs*

Give them to me. I've never tried any of these things and they all sound amazing.

in the note my brother sent he said he had a bottle of wine (his own) as well that I'm supposed to get the next time I'm in town - I'm not a huge wine drinker and mentioned to him he should give it to someone who'll appreciate it - you want that too?
