Yeah. I, uh, gave up the meat.

hot dog isn't meat, silly.

Something in that casing had a face and a pulse.

so you're one of the non-meat eaters that feels sorry for the defenseless animals?

I'm not getting into this with you Spike. I'm no advocate.

then what's the reason?

Animals maybe defenseless, but plants are even more so. :(

I like to mix it up. Cream cheese is always a solid addition.

My latest hot dog was accented with ranch and BBQ sauce. Magnifique'!

Cream cheese? That doesn't sound too tasty.

The ranch and BBQ sauce combo does sound good though.

Cream cheese is the staple for our tailgate dogs before Husky games.

Sunshine, a keg, and Costco dogs w/ cream cheese make for the perfect tailgate party.

In a nutshell, I just don't like the taste of meat anymore. I get mouth sweats when I think of it. That's all. Plus I feel healthier. There's other reasons too, but my convictions for animal rights are not strong enough to warrant vegetarianism based solely on saving animals.

I think we all know that would be a blatant lie.

The dogs are slow cooked to order in oil over a low heat until hot all the way through. The buns are steamed to order on a stove top steamer. Then each dog goes on a steamed bun. On top, Mrs. Fencz's special, sweet sour Hungarian onion sauce. The recipe is secret, but Joe is convinced that no one could make it even if they knew all the ingredients. The onions have to be cooked just right. Each ingredient has to be added at the ideal moment.

The basic hot dog has just the sauce. Most order it with fresh chopped onions. Those in the know order Mealies. The Mealie is topped with sauce, chopped onions and precisely cut and placed strips of hot peppers.

Every word of this is a fact

You're nuts. I'd probably go lighter on the onions, but other than that... those look like heaven on a bun.

in western pa all the dogs are grilled and the bun is grilled. i've learned that deep frying the dog and steaming the bun is the way to go.
