My dad was just railing on that Fat Bastard stuff at dinner the other night. He's a wine snob though, so what does he know?
It's by no means amazing, but for an inexpensive red, I think it's pretty tasty. To be honest, in the $12-25 range, I don't notice much of a difference in most wines. You need to either go below $10 or above $30 if you want a drastic taste difference.
And I'd gladly let your father belittle my taste in wine if he was offering me up what is in his cellar.
Ruffino Aziano 2005 is damn good, and relatively cheap too.
This vintage has gone up in price recently. You used to be able to pick it up for 12 to 13 bucks, and now it's anywhere from 14 to 17. Still worth it, though.
Having a bottle of this as we speak.

bump.
Been on a wine kick lately...something about summer and Pinot Noir go well (at least for me), plus beer on a hot day makes me feel icky (bloated mainly). Anyway, for those that don't drink much red wine, or looking for a decent Pinot Noir, try something from Oregon, or Russian River Valley, CA. Right now, it seems like the best Pinots are coming from the Pacific Northwest.

My favorite Pinots are from the Russian River Valley, CA. Those are the best ones.
I'm in South Korea teaching English, I've been craving a good bottle of wine but decent ones here are way more pricey than back in the states. Lame. Maybe when I save up some I'll splurge once or twice

I've only tried the Coppola Pinot Noir, and a Red blend (Zin, Cab Sav, Syrah), and both were around $20...For that price I found it to be way overrated, and have had better bottles for 1/2 the price. Having said that, I have not tried the Claret...I actually just saw it on sale the other day, thought about buying it, but then remembered my past experience, so I passed. Next time I see it, I'll give it a try.
I've never seen 'La Crema' but now that y'all have pointed it out, I'll be sure to try it.
I found this on sale for $13, and for that price, it was very nice:
With my case of the Frei Brothers zin now exhausted, I am gearing up to spend a chunk of change on some Loire Valley reds. There aren't a lot of them, but I've heard they've been unusually good the last few years.

Best affordable Zinfandel out there.
Haven't had that one, but Zinfandel is one of my favorite reds (Pinot Noir the other). I'm always looking for some great buys under $15, so I'll be on the lookout for that one. Thanks

You may have to spend $5 more, but it's worth every penny.

Maybe, but that's not really a fair comparison...they're both different varietals, and that boils more down to personal taste. I don't know, I've just always found it really hard to compare say a Zinfanel vs. Cabernet Saviougon. When I do wine comparisons, I normally tend to stick with the same kinds (Pinot v. Pinot, Zin v. Zin, etc...).

Like cheap Merlots, cheap Zin is really, really awful. The mid range on those varietals are almost nonexistant.
Cheap wine is awful...It all has that stale, sugary taste. I've been trying to find some good bottles for under $10, but typically fail. But...once I step up to about $15 or so, the quality vastly improves. Like the difference between a $9 bottle and a $15 is huge, where as the difference between a $15 and a $20 isn't always that big.
Anyway, last night I had some Coppola Pinot Noir, and I'm just glad it was a gift. Those are like $18 bottles, and I've definitely had cheaper Pinots that are far superior.
