i take 10% of the bill, double it, then round up to the nearest dollar to keep the math nice and simple. puts me right between 20-25%.

I've always tried to tip at least 20 % of the entire bill(tax included)....I very rarely look at what the before tax amount is. I've always been a pretty generous and nice person.
I've been a server/waiter for almost 24 years but always tipped well before I started doing this line of work....maybe because I knew, even then, that there are things beyond the server's control that can determine the quality of the service.

it's pretty much impossible to determine who is going to tip good...there might be some signs that would make you think that this person is going to be a good/bad tipper but those don't always prove to be correct.

Although I try to give great service to everyone I serve(meaning I have a very good attitude towards all the people I serve), I think that being a server is not all that far removed from slavery.
