It seems like it's really trendy in my neck of the woods to start up a cupcake shop right now. There are three within a 5 mile radius from me and I've heard the name of one of them dropped by at least 5 people in the last month. I tried one of these designer cupcakes upon request from my sister and I have to say it was pretty good. The icing was most impressive.

Still, are these desserts really so good that people will continue to pay top dollar at a shop devoted solely to them? What a niche market!

i had a cupcake at a birthday party a couple weekends ago that had blue frosting on it. my shit was green for three days after.

That's no good. If that post was serious, then you should try a real cupcake. I'm considering devoting part of my weekly budget to "Sprinkles Saturday".

Oh don't get me wrong, John. You're still on spank deck every other Thursday. I just have different supermarket chains where I live and so I don't know about the quality of cupcakes at your supermarket. For all I know, they could be iced with angel semen.

I've never had a really good cupcake.

I always find them prettier to look at than I find them enjoyable to eat.

I'm sure the cupcakes I'm tasting at Sprinkles aren't any better than a cupcake in Buenos Aires, but compared to a cupcake at HEB or Piggly Wiggly, they are fucking amazing.

They may be, I dunno.
I guess what I'm saying is I don't really like cupcakes.
And yeah, there's several really trendy cupcake places here too. Magu is crazy for them.

These are the ones that I had, and the icing is pretty complex for a cupcake. I can taste the butter and the cream as well as the sugar. Also, I'm sure they use homemade batter.



Here's the supermarket cupcakes we have here that I'm talking about.

Where are the ones in the top picture from, Reid? They look just like the ones from Hey, Cupcake! in Austin.

I can vouch for gourmet cupcakes, they are waaayyy better than just the regular ones you would make at home. The ones with filling especially.

Sprinkles Cupcakes. There's one called Sugar Babies that's closer to me, but the ones in the window look way too sweet.

I don't really know what's going on with that thing on the top. The first time I bit into it, it was hard and tasteless like maybe it was plastic, but I've been told that it's edible. I now take it off when I eat the cupcake, though.
