I don't really remember a response from you in the positive or negative in the thread dedicated to the tasty treat.

Not a fan, though I don't hate them. I had a plum tree in my back yard growing up.

How about kolaches, Pete? Around here, everyone calls these "kolaches", but my Czech grandmother and the good people of the Czech-heavy town of El Campo, TX will be quick to tell you that this is actually what kolaches are. I wholeheartedly agree with them. We have the real ones every thanksgiving.

They are. It's inexplicable, and it reminds me of the whole 'Sappy'/'Verse Chorus Verse' naming controversy if you are hip to Nirvana bootlegs.

Well this song is referred to by both names, but this one is the true "Verse Chorus Verse". I think. It's all very confusing, as it is with kolaches.

That's not even a kolache, spike. That's a sugar cookie with a jelly center. GTFO.

Are these a staple anywhere other than Texas in the continental US?

Surprisingly, it seems like they are not. I can understand the authentic pastry kolache being a regional thing, but I get the feeling that sausage and cheese wrapped in dough would be a universal hit.

My girlfriend's sister moved to Memphis from Texas and she stocks up on "kolaches" any time she's in town.

Yes, but these are whole sausage links smothered in cheese. The things are pretty long, and the sausage is completely enclosed, which makes it better somehow.
