How about kolaches, Pete? Around here, everyone calls these "kolaches", but my Czech grandmother and the good people of the Czech-heavy town of El Campo, TX will be quick to tell you that this is actually what kolaches are. I wholeheartedly agree with them. We have the real ones every thanksgiving.

Surprisingly, it seems like they are not. I can understand the authentic pastry kolache being a regional thing, but I get the feeling that sausage and cheese wrapped in dough would be a universal hit.
My girlfriend's sister moved to Memphis from Texas and she stocks up on "kolaches" any time she's in town.

Yes, but these are whole sausage links smothered in cheese. The things are pretty long, and the sausage is completely enclosed, which makes it better somehow.
