in an attempt to curtail my lack of concern for my health, I bought soy milk for the first time last week. vanilla flavor - been using it in cereal.
it's a little gritty. :?

otherwise I suppose it's acceptable as a substitute for milk but what else can you use it for?
RM has a somewhat healthy population of posters - anyone use this? any preferences? reasons for drinking it in place of milk etc?
tell me about your soy experiences.

It's not sexy, but I just blend it with a couple of bananas. It's a great base for smoothies in general.

I was going to suggest smoothies as well. I don't buy soy milk a lot, but periodically I'll pick a gallon up. My favorite thing about this stuff is the fact that it keeps for a very long time compared to whole milk. Plain is my flavor of choice, but vanilla soy milk can add a lot to "bland" cereals like cheerios or wheat chex.

Mine are not complicated.

1 to 1 1/2 cup Soy Milk
standard Yogurt cup (pretty much any kind)
Fruit (2 bananas, 1/2 cup of strawberries and 1/2 cup of blueberries)
1/4 cup of apple juice (optional)

I don't like mine super sweet, so I usually skip the apple juice.
If fresh strawberries and blueberries are pricey at the moment. Walmart carries the frozen varieties super cheap.
Also, I like mine thick, so I usually just do 1 cup of Soy Milk.

I can't recommend this little blender enough. Cheap, durable and easy to clean.

I don't really have any particular recipes. I normally just play around with what I have. I freeze the fruit that I'm going to use in it, though. That's the constant. No ice ensures that nothing gets watered down.

I switched away from cow's milk about six months ago and I can't imagine drinking the stuff now (not that I drank much of it, but I used it on cereal, etc). In part it's because I'm mildly lactose-intolerant, but in general soy is better for you (or so I've heard). I've recently began using almond milk which I think tastes better.

I was torn between vanilla and almond flavor. trying that next time.

LOL

I feel this exact same way - the eating crow stuff. Especially today when an edible arrangement was delivered to my workplace. It was from someone I'm trying not to "make friends" with.

I've found that I don't really require any sort of milk in my diet. I'm probably more lactose-intolerant than Mickey and I've tried Soy, Almond, and Coconut milk. Coconut was my favorite. All of them sat in my fridge long enough for me to wonder why these things aren't sold in those pint sized containers.

My wife has been buying that almond silk for awhile. It almost has no taste, and I'm okay with that.
